Eugh it was a bad draw but I’m so fucking fed up of “next year”

Chelsea on their worst season in recent memory even manage to blag a final

We’re cursed
We went to the league cup final under Mourinho, we still lost and so will the Chavs. I would back Liverpool all day long in that final as long as Salah is back fit for them.

Of course the first game they score at our ground, and the first game we don't, is decisive!

The last few seasons it hadn't made a jot of difference (except in the CL) as they've gone on to win the League each time...

Tonight, we're out of a Cup we could've won...

Then again, this year it'll probably be renamed The Jürgen Klopp memorial trophy, and Liverpool will be encouraged and helped to win it...
So we didn't really stand a chance!

Was working so missed this. Thought 'ah well, expected to go out, no biggie' but then checked the stats and saw 1 shot and 0.27xG at HOME to City. That's embarrassingly stale shite, what the hell happened for us to be that ineffective?
Transitions really, couldn't get the ball wide to Werner and Johnson in space as much as we should have

They won't like it because it's an absolutely biblically stupid thing to say about a knockout game in the only cup competition we're still in, whilst being at home vs a team who were yet to beat us at our stadium and whilst being very good, are not sparkling this season.

It was never a "free hit" - it was the biggest game of the season so far and a majority on here thought it was winnable.
Brentford is the next biggest game of the season.

If this was the Poch squad that lurked about like a fart under different managers, consistently coming up short, it 100% wouldn’t be a free hit.

This is an entirely new team in their first season together with a new manager. At this stage of a new project, previous results against City mean nothing, you are still trying to beat the best team in the world that has years of chemistry and experience on you.

No excuse but anyone making us favourites for that game was off their heads on narrative juice.

Richie could have played for another ten hours, he wouldn’t have scored.

He’s a trooper and runs his bollocks off but he’s never going to be the player that makes a difference at the top level. He can be a useful rotation player, hold the ball up (which he did well tonight) but he is limited. He’s always offside because he hasn’t got the pace to run in behind.

But he put in a huge amount of effort tonight.

He was not offside once all game and had not a single chance to fluff.

Doesn't deserve the slightest critique tonight.

Said heading into the game it was a free hit. Some people won't like it but it was.

We weren't at full strength outside of our defence and that game showed that. We had nothing offensively because we were missing our top goalscorer and our most creative player. Yet defensively, we were pretty solid.

City are a brilliant team. The fact they can bring the likes of Doku and de Bruyne off the bench shows that. They were brilliant tonight.

Even if we looked at it as a free hit, what irks me is that we didn’t play like it. We clearly missed a fit Madders but even with the players we had, including our first choice fullbacks, Deki and Bentancur, I’m just disappointed we didn’t do better on the attacking front.

We were never favourites (they are better than us and obviously very good) but in a one off cup game when you're at home it's never a free hit at all. Free hit is a game where you're up against a team nobody expects you to compete against, or you have a shit-load of injuries. The one at the Etihad? That was a free hit.

We were near full strength tonight. To limp away having had one shot all game is crap and deserves criticism, even if the wider picture is mostly positive.

All the results sequences like City not winning at our place will be broken so it's no surprise it happened tonight .We obviously would have had a better chance if we had real quality strikers like we have had over the last years with Harry and Sonny but without them we are just hoping for someone to bag something. We have to now just get as many points as possible and get a high finish and hopefully improve the squad over the summer .
