Do we need to win a trophy?

Definitely not. The ongoing success of the club is related to the players we can bring in, and no one joins a club because they've won a trophy recently, they join because they are playing football in Europe; most notably the Champions League. No one considers Woolwich a better club at the moment because they won the FA Cup (a trophy) recently. The more consistent our appearances in the top 4, the better players we will be able to sign, because all of the best players want to be playing in the Champions League every season.

If it’s the champions league

I made some home made wine. It's very potent. Listing to David Gray. Top of the table is no doubt. Never set your bar low baby!

champions league football far more important for longevity in competing at the very top than winning a league or FA cup which have both lost their shine over the last 20 years. would rather be having big european nights in the champions league and attracting the best players, over gloating about a cup that birmingham and swansea have won in recent times.

slipping out of champions league and allowing a rival like Woolwich or united to take our place could put us back 5-10 years if they spend the money correctly and get the right recruitment in. fuck that! let them have the tin pot cups.

Yup, every year that we spend in CL and woolwich don't is another punishing year for them financially and in terms of prestige.

It's a death by a thousand cuts. Keep it up a few more years, and there won't be lucrative shirt deals, season ticket price will have to drop, elite players will refuse to come, and your own stars will want to move away. The longer you're out, the harder it is to get back in.

The FA cup does nothing to stop that.
