Tottenham Hotspur summer transfer summary
Goalkeepers:
Vorm, Lloris, Gazzaniga, Whiteman
In Hugo Lloris and Paulo Gazzaniga, Tottenham are more than capable with the first and second choice players in this role. With the two promising youth players Whiteman and Austin (on loan), the club will look to buy in more pressing areas of the team before looking at reinforcements here. With Michel Vorm leaving this summer however, there is a chance of bringing in a more seasoned goal keeper, on loan, rather than a body that would challenge the current contingent.
Centre Backs:
Foyth, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Sanchez
Juan Foyth doesn't appear to have had a look in since Jose Mourinho arrived. Do supporters need to read anything into this or is it just a case of opportunities lacking? Either way, a fair few fans are left surprised at his development after having such promise. Couple this with no news about a contract extension for Jan Vertonghen and Spurs look short at the back. We could see Eric Dier and the impressive Tanganga take more prominent centre back rolls next sesson and thus, probably removing the need to invest precious funds in this position.
Full Backs:
Davies, Aurier, Tanganga
With Rose and Walker-Peters both leaving on loan, the club seem desperately short at full back. Tanganga has been massive in this respect, although most see him as a future centre half. A recent surge in form from Aurier and the return of Ben Davies does bode well for the remainder of the season however, the inclusion of Cirkin in the squad and the still 'nervous' Sessegnon doesn't leave fans feeling optimistic about this position going into next season. There may well be much needed additions in this area come the summer.
Centre Mids:
Lo Celso, Gesdon, Skipp, NDombele, Sissoko, Winks, Dier, Wanyama
For all intents and purposes, Victor Wanyama looks to have lost any chance of regaining his excellent form of the past. A real fear is that the same thing might apply to Sissoko. Even if those two do miss out on a squad place next year, a choice of six players would still be available for selection. If Dier is moved into the central back roll, you could argue five. This is where the popular calls for a 'destroyer' to be purchased this coming summer lye. A trait of past Mourinho teams. The manager has
singled out Oliver Skipp as being the potential future of Tottenham's midfield mind, which might see a loan move to cover this role being introduced, as opposed to a high profile investment. This position could go either way.
Attacking Mids:
Bergwijn, Son, Sessegnon, Moura, Lamela, Dele
In this position, Spurs are very well stocked. The envious array of talent at the manager's disposal going into the new season will install confidence in the spurs faithful. The two new additions in Steven Bergwijn and Ryan Sessegnon wet the appetite, adding to the existing flare, goals and creation. Anticipation levels are very high in this position, and rightly so as not many teams in world football can boast having a better selection of talent to choose from.
Centre forwards:
Kane, Parrott
Simply put, Tottenham need to buy another striking option this summer. It is without question, the club's highest priority and, having seen Harry Kane's injury record over the past couple of years, the cheapest option will not surffice. There needs to be an option, not a filler here, and in all probability we will see the club invest big in this department but here in lies the problem. Spurs have found buying a competitive addition up front very challenging in recent times to say the least. The continuous list of failed names in this area of the park will need to be broken if the club is to fulfil it's obvious potential. Expect serious investment here.
