I just don’t get how so many fans think that top 4 is given because we got it in the last three seasons. We were miles behind Man City last season and we did zero to improve our squad. How can that make it good transfer window?

That’s why I’m not bothered about Greilish and Zaha. Martial would be great, but I can’t see that happening. Plus I really don’t want to see Moura lose opportunities to play.

Talking of statements, I was chatting with a United fan I work with about the transfer window. The subject got on to Lucas Moura (my fault..I really do love the guy), and he said he couldn’t believe we’d signed him. He’s incredibly jealous, and in his words “I don’t think people realise how massive a signing that was...it seems to have gone under the radar.”

I’m at risk of sounding like a broken record, but Moura is the real deal. When PSG first came into their oil money he was one of their big marquee signings. Injuries and even bigger signings pushed him out, but he’s going to be a big star for us.

The marquee signing I’d want would be a CM, but I have no idea who is realistically available.

I wish I could agree, but Ive watched a fair bit of Moura and I think you're ultimately going to be a bit disappointed. He's a deluxe Lennon. Better dribbler, definitely will score more goals than Lennon (helps that he can reach the goal with a shot from further than Lennon's 3 yard range) but his end product is still very erratic and he can still frustrate and waste good positions.

Personally, I didn't think it was more erratic unpredictability we needed, but some real predictable quality, along the lines of Eriksen. I don't mean - another Eriksen - but someone like Fekir is of that level, what he does is quality, he can see and deliver clever things, he also scores a shit load of goals. Can play WRF, ARM, ACM, Striker.

I just don't get Poch's obsession with quick, erratic legs. We don't play explosive quick transition football or much counter attacking football (we do counter attack obviously, but it's not our default) we play a much more methodical, possession based type of game, especially with the likes of Dier and Dembele setting the tempo.

Maybe if we actually manage to get some midfielders who can win and move the ball with a bit of alacrity, transition with more vim, players like Moura (or Poch's dream boy Zaha) might make more sense. But the way we play, it's more craft we need, not more legs.
