Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He looked so much different yesterday than he did in all of his games last season, didn't look out of place and a different type of player to what we have which is fantastic.

Agreed. Only 1 preseason match so I don’t want to get carried away but....

Last season it seemed like he chased the game a bit too much. Too eager to be involved and show his talent.

In Sunday’s match, he seemed a bit more settled and calmer. Allowed the game to come to him and make an impact when necessary

No way! Huddlestone was the master of disguised passes. I always felt he was hindered by his great size.
Agree with the size part. Just not the type of body for a pro footballer. Too immobile as a defensive midfielder and rarely gets into final third. Sometimes it felt play he was playing around the centre circle.
The time he came into the scene at 18 for Spurs, many (myself included) were convinced we were going to build a team around him for years to come. His technique was quite beauty to watch. But he failed season after season to reduce his weight in order to rectify his mobility issue. What a disappointing end to his Spurs career though. A pity.

Did you not see the Tranmere cup game where he was superb and set up two goals, one with a vertical through ball that pierced the centre of their defence?

I do t think he looked any worse in any of his starts than any of our other midfielders did at various times throughout the season, and I really don’t understand why Poch stopped using him.

It was the same with Winks the previous season, did really well then didn’t get a look in from dec-April.

And KWP the same, plays first game away at Newc, plays really well, then doesn’t get another league start until last game.

Poch needs to bollock up and stick by these kids when they come in and prove they are competent. Look at the patience he shows to the likes of Alli, Dier, Sissoko, Son, Moura etc

Skipp is a rarity, a busy, tenacious little fucker who is also technically excellent, very clever and sees a pass.

I’m really excited for him this season, for me Poch made a huge mistake picking a decrepit Wanyama over him during the run-in when Skipp had shown more than enough to start matches.

In recent seasons Poch has been too cautious with young players and that needs to change immediately, loyalty to established players is admirable but there comes a point when you have to be ruthless. I saw more from Skipp against Juve than I saw from Dier or Wanyama in a single game last season, yes it was a friendly but he played with the intensity of a PL match.

Midfielder Oliver Skipp will wear the number 29 shirt for the new season.

I think he plays a good part in the upcoming season. Looks the business.

Yup but OS is funny, he has no 29, one after Ndombele (28) and 4 before Ben Davies (33) but listed by OS as part of u23 squad not first team.

Glad he got on for the first game, even though only for a few minutes to send the right signal to him. Looked fine in the few minutes on too !

I have the same suspicion of you, but it's hard to tell, because you are seem incapable of expressing any kind of independent or original thought when it comes to football, so you just resort to constant childish name calling.

You are a fucking bore.
Oh you mean I don't post 10 page dissertations about statistical football porn?

Too many fuckwits with dumb opinions to try to argue with, and I have neither the patience or will to do so.
You are a voluble and garrulous windbag with opinions about everything - and I told you early on into your tedious post history (on here) that your mistake (in my opinion) is that you are trying to turn this sport into a science - because you don't have the imagination or soul to see that it is a sport without a scientific basis - because it is played by human beings.

You are driven by statistics, because you cannot see the game for what it is, you think the players should be machines - table football automatons that perform to statistical images. You talk about positions, shirt numbers and formations as if they are set in stone, because you cannot seem to grasp the fluidity and and dynamic of a game played by real people.

On top of it all you denigrate players because of the pain it causes you that your statistics don't reflect what actually happens before your eyes. I dismissed Sissoko in his first couple of seasons because he was gash, but I have the wit and understanding to see how he has improved and what he offers to the team now, but you have neither the courage or humility to admit that you are wrong or that you dont possess the grasp of the game to see what happens in front of your eyes.

You then doubled down on your ignorance and lack of grasp of the game by dismissing Huddlestones ability to pass a ball and dramatically influence games. You might as well of said that Greaves or Hoddle were pedestrian, journeymen footballers. Thudds only problem was that he wasn't athletic enough to play the running game, his passing ability and reading of the game was Hoddle proportions, he just lacked the athleticism to complete the full range necessary to be the complete footballer.

I feel genuinely sorry for you, you have an obvious passion for the game, and for the club I have supported for 52 years, your problem for me is that you know the cost of everything and the real value of nothing at all.

When its all said and done, your last resort is to turn into a foul mouthed abuse monster - which shows the the true shallow nature of the depths of your understanding - are there statistics for invective and personal abuse?

And you have the front to call me a fucking windbag.

You really are an ignorant, hypocritical buffoon aren't you. One of the many differences between you and me is that I'm open and interested all facets of the game, the sport, the art, the business and the science - you are clearly not, why you feel the need to insult people who are is beyond me.

Here's a stat for you. Every single exchange we've ever had it has been you that started the name calling and insults. Just as you did above when I expressed a (non stat) opinion on Huddlestone (and wasn't talking to you).

I've lived with science, real science for all of my professional life. It offends me when people invent science for sports to make themselves feel important.
I'm really sorry I commented on your post, I hadn't realised you owned the internet and your comments were beyond reproach.

Oli Skipp's change of squad number from 52 to 29 suggests that he's becoming a firm first team regular now, next door to Ndombele at 28.
Sadly, it doesn't help my weather vane much.

I haven’t claimed the invention of anything. The “science” in football is everywhere and has been for a long time, clubs, coaches, recruitment, performance, media. It’s available to everyone. Quite why it it offends you so much is baffling.

You know it’s not you commenting on my post that’s the issue, it’s that you seem incapable of civil interaction when doing so. And then bitch and whine when your insults get insulted.

As for “owning the internet” (a line I used on you last week - you’re so original) you are the only one out of the two of us demonstrating self proclaimed prejudice and intolerance - and continually making personal insults just because someone thinks differently than you about football. About football for fuck sake. Its fucking pathetic.
