The above.

He's still learning. Obviously ahead of his peers.
Look at Lookman. He's got bad control and is a sloppy passer. gives the ball away far
too often.
They have to be eased in.

Lookman made a mistake joining Everton over us I think.

Thought he had a great tournament. Looked very very good on the ball. Passing was a bit wayward at times but he also made some really good ones too.

Onomah is starting to become a very exciting option. Cannot wait to see what he can do this season.

I really thought his days were numbered last year. Thankfully not!

Would love to see him take a step forward (or twenty!). Winks did it last year. CCV and KWP look like future Premier League-players as well. Our academy is something to be proud of! If we can remain THIS competitive and continue to develop youngsters at this rate mate... stuff of dreams as a supporter IMHO.

Why does Pochettino persist with playing him wide right.
Last night first half I thought Dier was very poor in the middle. Only when Onomah dropped deep in midfield for 15-20 mins did we look somewhat stable in that area.
When Wanyama came on it was completely different altogether.

Games like these would be ideal for him to do so.
Could have had him alongside Dembele from the off.
Maybe something to do with the lack of a player in the right AM role.
Even Oakley Boothe played there and he's a CM too.

I didn't get anything that resembled Dembele in that video.

He actually plays like the Pogba who tore apart Serie A - alot stronger and bigger than a lot of the opponents he's up against, demands the ball and has bucket loads of confidence when he's on the ball with. I actually think a Dembele/Onomah partnership would work because both are hard to get the ball off in possession, both do a defensive shift and pass completion for both must be high 80s.

Not the best video (no where near as good as the YouTube vid posted of Onomah) but this was when France won the U20 World Cup and Pogba was star midfielder - pretty much the same age as Onomah, you can see the similarities in their game (beyond Pogba shooting in nearly all of the highlights), strong on the ball, bigger then most of the opponents, neat foot work etc.

Seems Onomah himself agrees with me on this one.

He might play young, developing CMs furter upfield for two reasons:
1. Because the risk of making mistakes leading to a conceded goal, and the risk of losing control of a game from a bad performance is reduced that way.
2. To push them towards becoming more creative and better at producing end product, rather than just be tidy players.

They may perform slightly worse now, but at reduced risk and with a long-term reward.

Just take the L and being stubborn m8y

Take the L?

He is nothing like Dembele.

Pochettino clearly thinks the same if he's willing to play Tashan Oakley-Boothe in central midfield over Josh Onomah. He must be what, 6th choice central midfielder in our pre-season team.

Poor Dembele Mk II

Maybe he should stop trying to emulate Dembele and just be himself? It's not worked for him so far has it? Seems to work well when in England U20s playing against Korean and Venezuelen minnows.

He played well in the first half game vs Roma. He was very frustrating, though. At one point he dribbled through a defender and did well to hold onto the ball against two defenders, then turns and passes it right to Roma. He had a nice few turns around the box and created space for Trippier to get in a cross at one point.

Talk this morning that Onomah is off to Villa on loan. Think this would be a great move to give him consistent competitive football and test what level his game is at.

Don't know about this.

Those who get banished out on loan, rarely return. Plus, I think he would need a loan to a Premier League club as opposed to Villa.

Lets hope he does get some game time in his favoured position, impresses and comes back a better player. It's a tough league, especially when playing in the hardest position in world football.

But he does need first team football. He needs to be as far away from the wing as possible and right now he's about 5th or 6th choice central midfielder so his game time is limited.

Surely this would signal the end of his Spurs career as poch doesn't send the kids he trusts out on loan?

Well that would be that then... the last thing he needs is John Terry in his fucking ear bitching about Spurs all day....

It would be akin to getting banged up with a Hate Preacher in your prison cell!
(OK, nothing like that... but you get the idea!)

I've heard from someone at the academy that Poch has changed his mind about sending players out on loan. He believes Onomah is at a stage where he can only improve by getting consistent game time.

can't understand why Poch has taken so long to let players go out on loan
they need to play in championship if he can't give them game time
this season it will be very hard to give young lads good game time
EPL & CL we need best players, that only leaves 1league cup game where a youngster can get game time (if we win then there is another game) but we need to win something this year

Learn different training methods and pick up things that Pochettino perhaps wants to monitor himself?

Onomah would probably learn alot more in training with our first team and entire season then training and playing with Aston Villa.

But you can't neglect game time and if Pochettino doesn't feel he's good enough to step up in the way Winks has, then it's a good decision for him.

you may learn things in training, but it comes down to putting that info/practice into use in the heat of battle
the only that can be done is playing real life matches, games that matter
Onomah has wasted last season getting very little match time sitting on the bench

Poch is not always right ( look at the signing we have made, he must have said yes to some of them)
