Ornstein called out in an Athletic Q&A today…

Charles L asked: You said at the start of the window that Spurs had no money to spend. Not sure you’ve got your finger on the pulse of what’s going on in N17 as much as you do at other clubs…

Ornstein: Thanks for that, Charles. Tottenham barely spent on (loan signing) Timo Werner. They spent on Radu Dragusin but the year-one financial fair play cost will be more than covered by the departures of Eric Dier, Hugo Lloris, Sergio Reguilon, Japhet Tanganga, Ivan Perisic and Djed Spence (Genoa’s option to buy the latter would raise good money if activated).

Nusa is not done yet, so we don’t know the finances involved and a midfielder like Conor Gallagher could probably only be funded by a significant departure.

Is that sufficiently on the pulse?
Ornstein seems like a sensitive young man. Two footing someone who asked a legit question.

What an absolute melter. A total cunt. I hate the guy. May as well be on Arse’s payroll. Always rubbed me the wrong way.

He's not wrong about any of that tbf
People seem to mistake us outspending everyone, with spending a lot. We spent more on Lucas Moura one January.
We spent a lot more for Redknapp when we were near the bottom 15 years ago.
We spent almost twice as much last January on Porro to what we've spent on Dragusin.

And again, tbf, there was a point where it was off. Everyone reported it.

Again, who cares? What difference does it make?

He reports the news as he has it and doesn't appear to be a liar or agenda driven.

Most of the Spurs fans posting news just post everything as fact when most of it's utter BS

But total transfer spend in this window stands at about £70m - with Spurs being highest spenders I think. Big change from previous Jan windows - last year £800m+ !

Ornstein probably told his mum…

Venky's (Blackburn owners) have got ongoing problems with India's foreign capital controls rules which stop them investing further in Blackburn - and that can even impinge on Venkys sending money to Blackburn to pay wages or HMRC tax bills, keep the lights on etc

Blackburn itself might start to have FFP issues as its last big player sale was almost 3 years ago, with operating losses since, so now is the right timing to book a profit on player sale and overcome the ffp issue for another 3 years.

Spurs are not desperate for Wharton to come here in January, and there's merit in him finishing the season at Blackburn - he only broke into the side last season so has about one season's games under his belt, another half season taking him up to about 60 Championship games played makes sense.

So my guess is a £20m bid and loan back for rest of season - and maybe even loan of a 2nd player from Spurs might get the deal done. If they are short of a GK - Whiteman and Spurs would be probably be delighted to get the loan !

Top price I think for a similar age player from Championship was probably £26m for Alex Scott - I think everyone else at £20m or less, so if Blackburn need to sell (and I think Venky's situation gives them limited choice on a sale)
I didn't really get the Hackney and Vermeeren hype. Previous to that I didn't get the Alex Scott hype.

there's something about this player that's different though and I'm buying into this one.

Nah... He's mistaking us not having any money to spend with us ACTUALLY spending money.

We spent more on Lucas Moura one January.

Lucas didn't cost more than Dragusin.....

We spent a lot more for Redknapp when we were near the bottom 15 years ago.
We spent almost twice as much last January on Porro to what we've spent on Dragusin.

Every January(*) he says we have no money to spend (or must sell to buy).....

2022: Bentancur (€19m) / Kulu (€10m loan fee)
v No trf fees incoming.

2023: Porro (€45m + other add-ons etc.)
v No trf fees incoming.

2024: Dragusin (€30m) / Werner (€??? loan fee) / Nusa (maybe)
v Nominal loan fee for Dier.

(*Most summers too.)

Fuck him and his worming around making sudden caveats based on wages (Werner's on 160k and it's highly likely we're still paying a chunk of Perisic's remaining contract.).

He'd get more respect if he just owned his fuck up.

Brighton & Hove Albion are in the mix to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Bryan Gil in the winter market, according to a report from Italy.

On Wednesday, Corriere dello Sport stated the winger has received offers from the Premier League and was evaluating them. They didn’t reveal the details of the English clubs.

This information is provided by today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport and they name Brighton and another English team as clubs interested in the Tottenham player.

The newspaper points out the 22-year-old, who was offered to Lazio last summer, is being considered by the Serie A side for this month.

Gil hasn’t been a regular under Ange Postecoglou this season as he’s clocked in 217 minutes from 10 games.

The report explains that he could be on his way out of the north London club, but seems ‘destined’ to stay in the Premier League. The question is whether he’ll join Brighton, Brentford (the other team named) or another English club.
Corriere state both Roberto De Zerbi’s side and the Bees are ‘negotiating’ to take the Spain international away from Spurs on a loan deal.

That’s all the report has to say about Brighton, but with Ansu Fati still out of action, a quick deal for Gil could make sense.

Ok, if Brighton want him, I’m worried about selling him.
