It was an interesting point made about Ito in how he fits the player style needed for the fullback position at the club. It hasn’t really been discussed but when you think about it, it does need a certain type of player profile that’s not just a bog standard fullback.

Sneaky suspicion that they aren't looking at Illing Jr as a forward but as an inverted FB.

The other different thing about the inverted FB role is that because they play inside and more like a box to box player, the side and strong foot isn't as important.

But how many minutes? He's young and at a critical time for playing and developing. The odd 15-30mins or a start in the Carabao isn't the best thing for the player.
If Richy left would you trust Veliz to be ready to step in as our full time starting #9? If not then he would develop better at his age by playing every week somewhere. This kid is possibly Argentina's future starting #9, he needs to develop.
It takes less than a minute to score a goal, if he makes the most of his opportunities when he comes on, he will be given further chances. Richie is not going to leave but if he did I would trust Ange's judgement.

Doesn't change the question.

Richy stays then our CF rotation is

Richy
Son
Maybe Werner
Veliz/Scarlett/Parrott

It looks most likely that Richy stays now so Veliz is - at best - third in line for minutes at CF but if Nusa is here next season and we have signed Werner permanently then he's likely ahead of Veliz for CF minutes as well.

Where is that minute to score coming from?

Think they're more focused on getting players out the door as opposed to getting players in, at least for the time being.

Ten Hag said as much but that could be because he's been told there isn't cash.

I guess it depends on how the new owners weigh up the risk of investing in a new player for Ten Hag vs the risk of missing Top4/5. Maybe they look at Top 4/5 as already a long shot regardless of bringing a player and could even be looking at their own manager for next season.

Not necessarily.

It can come from league matches, cup matches, European matches. There are lots of things that could happen to give him a chance.

Ok,

So you weigh up a young player's development against the chances that things "could happen" to give him a chance to play.

If you look at those 2 things, you probably take the best decision for the player and your investment and send him on loan to develop. IMO.

But maybe I'm wrong and something happens that gets him on the pitch ahead of Richy, Son and maybe Werner at CF.
