It's pretty incredible how often people miss the point with FFP.

My guess is that there are a lot foootball fans with that more childish type of left-leaning political views where they think that regulations are brought in to make things "fair".

In this case clubs having to sell your best players isn't "fair" according to this guy. But fair has fuck all o do with it, the FFP rules were brought in to stop unsustainable owner investment that leaves clubs broke when it dries up and fans then end up with bankrupt teams to follow.

Strange that a Spurs fan is saying that it's unfair when we've been playing by the rules all along

That one seems to have some out there views a lot of the time. Think it's just part of his online persona.

Like I said, he thinks the rules need to change because one club following them and benefiting isn't fair on other clubs that didn't. Weird take tbh.

He follows it up by saying that it wasn’t a well thought out tweet. Delete it then?

Maybe just spend within your means? Not a crazy concept, most PL teams manage it.

What's that got to do with your political leanings? That's a genuinely inane bit of analysis Rich. Sustainability of football clubs shouldn't be about player sales in any way. That clubs like Wolves and Everton have had to resort to this merely underlines how badly run these businesses are. Can't understand why anyone would cry for them.

Some people actually more excited by that than if we won a major trophy

Well if half the league weren't cheating we would have a few by now.

Ignore the guess at the political lean. Was just saying that there’s a bunch of football fans that have completely missed the point and seem to think that because a club has to sell players or not buy players in order to run in a sustainable way, that means FFP is unfair on smaller teams trying to win

Fecking £100 fecking million sovs for Richi and Brennan!!!!

FFP is a joke and should be abandoned.
Bollocks. So the rich get richer and the poor vanish into obscurity?
Weirdest take on FFP yet.
Yes, it’s been criminally run to date and a lot of shit has floated under the bridge.
But the minute it looks like it may have teeth?…fuck it off?
Only someone with a vested interest in a cheat mode club would seriously suggest this.

The problem is the cognitive dissonance. Fans were sold the idea that FFP would stop monies teams dominating the sport. In fact, it just makes it much more certain that monies teams will dominate the sport because it takes decades of club building to catch up - and when you do, the goal posts have shifted. SEE: Spurs.

FFP isn't the solution to football's ills that some think it is. It's salve on a wound, treating a symptom but not the underlying illness which is free market capitalism taking over sport.

It was sold primarily to stop Portsmouth and Leeds happening again.

It does mean that a sugar daddy can't come in and pump money in very easily and possibly bankrupt the club. Without ffp Everton would be in a lot deeper hole as the owners would have pissed more money up the wall before the Russian ruble was cut off.

Richard Arlison Richard Arlison Clubs having to sell players because they are living beyond their means isn't a side effect of ffp, it's the purpose.

I'd say the Spurs, Brentford, Brighton's of the Premier League are the presence of Free Market Capitalism. If you position yourself well in the market, operate well and offer a good product you can succeed in a market that is free, or at least close to it.

The influence of the oligopoly (Chavski, City, Newcastle) are where the issues come from. These owners aren't free market capitalists in anyway, they have used what is essentially stolen money from the people of their countries to artificially inflate and control the market and make it less free.

FFP does discourage new oligarchs from entering the system because it makes it more difficult to invest their own money to artificially increase the funds available to club. The issue that smaller clubs have is that building sustainably takes decades, isn't as exciting, and during the short term, you have to be prepared to do what we did by building and selling star players. This is what Brighton are doing and it's the reason they will leave Forest and Everton in the dust if FFP stays in place.

It's definitely a feature not a bug.

I'm a big fan of FFP. Regulation can either kill the organism or if done correctly, help it flourish like a gardener cropping dead branches. In this case, if FFP is carefully maintained and prevented from growing and overreaching, it will definitely serve as the latter and we will see a Premier League where clubs that earn success with good planning and discipline will be able to do so.
