The major American stations (NBC, CBS, ABC/ESPN) absolutely know how to present and sell sports on TV. They are by far the best in the world at it.
Well, did ABC/ESPN make this kind of splash with the World Cup?

What's interesting is that NBC isn't exactly short on weekend sports programming: they have Notre Dame carryball Saturday afternoons (so just after the PL) and the NFL Sunday nights. And they have plenty of golf/racing during the spring. But maybe they hope the PL will help lead into ND/golf/etc. and maybe take eyeballs away from the Sunday morning carryball shows their competition broadcasts.

Either way, they probably paid a mint for these rights and are eager to make money off it. I doubt they pushed getting the NHL this hard... or did they?

I think that last one is the key point - NBC doesn't have NFL on Sunday afternoon, so they also have no Sunday morning "pre-game" show. CBS, Fox and ESPN basically monopolize all sports viewers in the US starting at 10am on Sunday.

Having the PL gives them live sports on Sunday morning to combat the NFL pre-game studio shows on their competitors.

Bale would be nuts to go to Spain this season.

The exposure he is going to get in merica is going to colossal, colossal I say.

When entering the premier league section of the nbcsports website you're given the option to pick the team you support. We have currently collected 23% of all votes! Followed by woolwhich with 12%, man united with 10%, Liverpool 9%, and Chelsea with 8%. Seems like all the marketing spurs have pushed to get through NBC in the US is paying off!
