What's gone wrong ?

Not much really.

We qualified for the CL this season and finished fourth last season. Got knocked out at the semis of the league cup. Year before, same result we would have gone through to the final.

Saying that we are on a "bad run," going back to whenever is a bit nutty. One because unless there has been some pretty radical overhaul of the EPL last season's results don't count this season.

We needed to strengthen the squad - we did.

We had a good pre season. Beat Villa.Got a draw at City. Got beat by Newcastle - shit happens.

It's flipping nuts to make out we are in the midst of some sort of crisis. We are not.

We got to the CL final and we really were the better team.

Beat the South Londoners and suddenly everything will look different. If we don't makes it better when we do at NWHL.

We are a very good team, with a young talented squad, a good academy, we have loadsamoney, fantastic stadium.

COYS
Bizarre that you think it is proper to ignore last season. We have not played well for at least a year and even worse over the past 15 league games, relegation form. The fact that this looks to be continuing is worrying. We might beat Woolwich but we will struggle against Palace.

What is this fallacy about Klopp winning stuff because he was backed. They didn’t spend a penny this year yet look as good.

He dropped Kieta and Fabinho for large parts of the season and stuck with Milner and Henderson. Would you want them under Poch?
They have an academy RB and a 9M LB from Hull.

They spent 60M on a keeper who wouldn’t look out of place in the 14M bracket.
VVD, let’s call him world class then to make people happy....75M, ok, that’s one.
Thats 135M on two players most clubs would have got for 70M combined.

Salah cost less than Sanchez, Lo Celso and Ndombele....Mane cost the same as Sissoko and Lamela.

It’s not spending, it’s called coaching and good tactics.
Mane only went there cause of wages - levy didn’t want to pay up - it was between us and Pool. Same with most of the others listed. So yes - Klopp was 100% backed when he needs to improved a weak team - fact

Poch did this to Kane.
If he wasn’t playing the way he has been coached to play, he’d have been dropped.

Poch can whine he’s our only striker all he fucking wants, I posted it before but Llorente got 2000 minutes in 2 years.....let’s guess what Janssen got?

You don’t leave your back up strikers on the bench and play one players every second they are fit. Even at 3 up they weren’t getting 20 minute run outs.
You don’t take Kane to Tranmere. You certainly don’t bring him on at 6-0 because “the Tranmere fans have never seen him”.

He’s injury prone and while he might score goals, sorry but gone are the days of 37 in a season. He’s just not hungry enough in this set up.

I expected this to last for years and years.....look at our core, they all look like shadows of themselves.
We got two years of Dele, kid yourselves all you want, but all we’ve got now is some kind of Morata, minus the few goals.
Jan and Toby look no better your average CB, and suddenly Sanchez is a RB. All that potential and we got half a season of quality out of him before he was benched off.

Trippier gone and Aurier just completely out of it. How about integrate him when you knew our only RB would be KWP. Now he’s just non existent.

People can blame the squad quality and chairman all they want, but I’m starting to feel we’re no more than Pochs little experiment for his next gig.
I don’t feel he’s part of the fabric anymore, and there is a disconnection.

Lots of people pinning there hopes on Ndombele, desperately hoping it’s the time old CM problem. It’s not.
How many CM combos can Poch fail with?
He looks like another good player in a shit system to me, and maybe we don’t see him until February anyway.

It’s Monday and it’s gloomy. Fitting.

I'm afraid Poch for some reason simply does not react quickly enough if his initial tactics are obviously failing to work. He seems unable to accept what is clearly unfolding in front of his eyes. It's as if he inwardly regards it as failure on his part so lets it drag on hoping for a recovery. Plan A always lasts for at least one hour.

We can all criticise and say what we would do in his situation but one thing I know for sure. The point at which to make a tactical team change during that match was undoubtedly half time. Why continue with the same set up for another 15 minutes ?. Steve Bruce must have been delighted to see the same eleven run out onto the pitch second half.

My single most frustration with Poch has always been this weakness. I cannot recall the last time he made a half time substitution that was not forced upon him by injury. Should anyone actually have that statistic I would love to know when it was.

I think it's the double edged sword of a coach that's been here too long and players that have been here too long. One you can work with, but when both happen, it's a recipe for the rot to set in.

There's very little one touch passing. It's all pass, control, look around, pass, control, look around, pass...
Everything appears to have gone backwards. Basic defending, mental preparation, we look unfit/lethargic/pressing has gone out the window.

And Poch is getting more and more ratty with the media. Is it because he no longer has the answers?

The home atmosphere will never be anything like the away fans and I can accept that. I think the standing issue is a big one plus the type of fan who sits where they sit. At whl we could have a good back and forth with the oppo fans but now it’s just dead.

I am one that thinks the fans should do their part irregardless of the teams performance but I accept that in the uk that we don’t all agree on that.

Surley people want to get something out of their 50 quid even if it is just fun in the stands??

The state of this. What's gone wrong? And than the two options as the only options.

Woolwich TV was just a sign of the times.
Spurs fans are becoming Gooners.
Spurs fans are football fans. Just like fans of any othe club we care passionately about our team.
From a team so close to the pinnacle, as Poch himself said last summer, to relegation form since February, players running down their contracts, and unrest within the squad suggests something has gone wrong.

Are you saying everythings rosy and none of the above warrant discussion on a football forum?

Hasn't hindered City, I see.

Worth noting that City have made the most backwards passes this season too.

Interestingly City have only played 504 forward passes all season and completed a total of 1885.

We have completed 1856 and completed 464 forward passes.
When your four nill up passing it around sideways ain't too bad.

Now when your one nill down to Newcastle...

Today has nothing to do with what I think of this because losses like this can happen anytime, I love Poch but unfortunately some love stories come to an end. Sometimes managers get found out or run out of ideas and things go stale. It happened to Klopp at Dortmund, to Favre at Gladbach, to Guardiola at Bayern and so on. I feel that Poch has ran out of ideas and last season was proof for it. We’ve gone from one of the best attacking side in the country to boring, winning through individual effort rather than team work.

I really really really hope Poch can find the right balance again in our team and get it firing, but I have my doubts and concerns over this.

We have one of the best squads we've ever had. Despite that, we didn't deserve to beat Villa, didn't deserve the draw against City and deserved to lose today.

The players look lethargic and lost, many of them standing still or walking. We win games due to individual brilliance, luck or mistakes. Many of our players seem ball-greedy; Too many touches, not passing into space, trying to dribble like Messi and no movement off the ball.

When you watch City or Liverpool the ball transitions smoothly up the pitch, the ball does the moving because the players are already in position or moving into it. With us the players do the running while dribbling, only to make a 5 yard pass and then stand still. It's stilted and stagnant.

We barely press any more and the players didn't even look tired at the final whistle because of how little movement there was, Kane and Moura especially.

This was a must win game. Beat Newcastle and suddenly Woolwich, United and Chelsea are under pressure. The Woolwich game next week becomes less important and the players can relax. Instead we're now the ones under pressure - if we lose next week we will be 5 points behind Woolwich already and stuck in the lower half of the table, playing catch up.

We lost today because of tactics, not because of our lack of signings. Despite that there are obviously huge holes in the squad. I feel like we never replaced Modric who left 7 years ago and we haven't really had a ball playing CM since, maybe Mousa but he wasn't the same level. Instead we've depended on Eriksen to do it, whilst also being an AM. After a performance like today Kane should be dropped, but there's no replacement so he won't be. We can't scout a striker to save our lives, Saldado, Janssen and Llorente were nowhere near good enough.
