Had not City gotten their ill-deserved money and caused turmoil amongst the "top four", it would have been much harder for a club like ours to qualify for the CL. When the previous top four was no longer guaranteed their spots and when players could get bigger paychecks elsewhere, it made the top four have to fight harder to retain and obtain players. They failed, one after the other, in this slightly more open market, which is part of the reason we are were we are at the moment.

Football is less of a cartel then it was pre influx of money for PSG and City. The old rich controlled everything then. They are still trying desperately to keep and increase their control (see FFP, see CL seedings, see the new club world cup format that is in the works). Previously they have also worked hard to increase their power and wealth, such as with new formats to European Cups, seedings to those tournaments, new format to national leagues, attempts to get more of the TV money distributed to the biggest clubs, etc.

Imflux of money to lesser clubs from rich investors evens the game out more, making it harder for the select few old elite clubs.

It has been great for the game.

Sorry don’t see how it made it easier mate we have lost out on the title and CL positions to City and Chelsea multiple times. We legit would have won a PL title the season before and 2 FA cups if not just for Chelsea. If they didn’t exist clubs like us doing things the right way EG bringing through youth and investing in potential wouldn’t be under constant threat of having our players poached every season.

Sure clubs like Real, Barca, Bayern and United could have always blown us away using money if they wanted to. But we would never be in this position we are now where they all have to try to do so because clubs like City and Chelsea are spending millions on basically hoarding talent to stop other teams getting them, so they then can’t afford to have other challengers such as us about also

Rare sense on SpursCommunity:

This window is mirroring many recent ones in which the ITKs are very bullish and we all get excited but there is a gradual drop off in expectation. Then there is a final flurry of players arriving just as the window closes which placates the angry fans.

In the last couple of seasons these final day players have been Nkoudou, Sissoko, Llorente, Moura and Aurier. With the possible exception of Moura I think these are all players we regret buying. They are certainly contributing to our current difficulties by clogging up our squad.

My fear is that "as a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool repeats his folly" and we end up with Andre Gomes or some other Carlos Kickaballs their clubs are desperate to offload.

Carlos Kickaballs. Rather apt name for a footballer, what are the chances! :gallashmm:
