On paper Toby out and Evans in is horrendous, but I can see why, he is experienced enough and won't block Sanchez & Foyth developing

Personally I just don't think he is good enough, but could see us get him and Foster if Vorm leaves to boost our HG quota

First and foremost your defender should be able to defend.

We don't have a pacey squad and we do fine. Technical/Mental attributes over physical every time.
I agree, and that’s what Davies is. My only point being it doesn’t make as much sense to back up a technically sound, quality LB with another LB with the same (but probably lesser, at least initially) attributes. Find someone who can bring something different to the table - use the depth to provide the squad with tactical flexibility.

Fun research question:

You are ditching one Danny Rose. What criteria do you use to find his replacement? AKA, what should a full back be good at?
Key attributes - crossing, pace, dribbling, 1v1 defending, stamina.

Useful attributes - set pieces specialist, shooting, long passing, can play in multiple positions.

Here's some ITK :

We were told by various ITK on SC that Toby had signed again and again and not to worry- and now suddenly, nope he's off, we can get better etc. Fucking joke as usual, these posters should have their posts and declarations framed up so we can see how full of BS they actually are. I've thought that SC was a scam for awhile now anyway, need donations so ITKs come in with "ITK" and donations go through the roof, but it's all BS.

I'm not affected by it of course, so I can't be bothered to go and find posts from the ITK and be up in their face, but someone should. Can't believe how fake news can spread so easily and be so believable when the proof of lie is right there in post history.

Jonny Evans as a Toby replacement doesn’t make sense to me, even for £3m. He’d be the 3/4 best CB on the team. Are we looking for Cup depth? Go young or go big.

Go young or go big.
I say do both. Hold Toby here for 2 more years while he ages, then let him go on a free. Meanwhile, you've got Sanchez and Foyth growing into massive talents, and hopefully CCV making that jump as well. I would not let Toby go, right now, to strengthen our rivals, even for a really good fee. Denying them good CBs is worth more than being able to buy another one of our own.

Agree, but I wouldn't be totally against the idea,
He's not bad, nor is he great, but he is very experienced and IF we decide not to buy a replacement for Toby, could pass on that experience to Sanchez and especially Foyth.
He might even get the odd game in Carabao cup, if needed.

Evans is fine, but we would be significantly downgrading our CBs by bringing him on. I think we are going to slightly downgrade regardless if Toby leaves, but I'd rather it be in a younger Foyth like player or spend Sanchez+ money on a real talent. Evans just seems like a stop gap going into the new stadium.

Teams can activate his buyout clause in summer 2019 I believe, and keeping a player on the squad who does not want to be here is a terrible idea.

I'd rather we pay him the wages because otherwise whats the point of CL, sponsorship and stadium money, which should give us the ability to nearly double our wage bill based on some back of the napkin math. But if Poch has given his blessing and we can't come to terms, sell him now and get what you can. I'd take £50m to PSG right now if they offered it.

The wages issue is simply that we can't just pay that to Toby. If we pay Toby that amount, we'd have to match it for several other players, which would then trigger another round of demands from other players too. Our wage structure is a collective thing, so while we can overpay for one or two players the way some poorly run clubs do, we won't because our wage structure is more egalitarian. Which in this case means that Toby's demands aren't going to be met.

Funnily enough though, downgrading our defensive options actually upgrades our midfield options as that would no doubt keep Eric Dier as a central midfielder and should never see him at centre half again.

A few years back I had an entire summer where I had fuck all to do. It was the summer of 2013, where we sold Bale and bought in those 7 players (Eriksen, Soldado et al). I spent the summer on news now and read just about every story that came out to see who we were linked with and what the tone of the media was towards a potential signing or sale. I would then compare this to what I was reading on the SC ITK boards to see if, even just once, there was anything news that broke first on the ITK boards.

Guess what ... there wasn't. There was not so much as one piece of ITK that I hadn't already come across on the net already from News Now.

They've also been BTFO by jumping on a linked player, obviously taking a gamble and saying it's a 'done deal' then having to make up some bollocks about goalposts being moved at the last minute... fucking agents to explain why they were proven wrong.

I will never ever ever understand/believe that SC needs those donations to keep running despite the traffic/advertising revenue they bring in. Not to mention that the website looks crap compared to TFC.

It's their USP. Its why if you go on the SC boards and say their full of shit you get banned.
