'Rodon at heart of rejuvenated defence'

On Friday, Leeds United secured their sixth clean sheet of the campaign - not bad for a team that conceded more than 150 goals in the previous two seasons.
At the heart of that rejuvenated defence is Tottenham Hotspur loanee Joe Rodon.
Rodon does not seem to come with the baggage Leeds' recent centre-backs have carried. The Welshman eschews the pantomime theatrics of Pontus Jansson and does not have the errors that haunt Liam Cooper. Not since Ben White have Leeds looked so solid in defence.
But what has defined Rodon's season so far is his organisational nous and his fighting spirit. Rodon has the vision to anticipate danger and the courage to fly into tackles and blocks. He emerges from these battles victorious more often than not, with a characteristic grimace on his face.
And Rodon has made those around him better. Illan Meslier and Pascal Struijk look far more comfortable this season by his side.
The mistake Leeds made with White was not having the funds to pay over the odds to make his loan permanent. They should avoid the same mistake.
Should Rodon be available on a permanent transfer, 1 January will not be soon enough to complete the deal.
Does sound like he’s done well

They aren’t paying 25M in Jan - they won’t risk doing a Leeds

Uh, can you think of many defenders who have done well at championship level who are worth 25m+?

If Leeds are offering 15-20m I'd take it in January.

Either that or he stays there all season and comes back as the 4th choice CB next season but he should be playing week in week out somewhere

Time to move on.....

If he does well with Leeds then I'm pleased for him; but he's bossed the champo before..... If Leeds don't buy him then someone will; be that another champo side or a lower table prem team (we only have 10m to re-coup). Stick a buy back clause in if we genuinely fear he'll be an explosively late bloomer.

If he's not explicitly suited to a high line (which I don't think he is); then even as a back up we'll have the same outcry as we currently do the moment we call upon him to play......... Just as well kick on with Emerson.

Joe Rodon (Leeds United)

Spence's team-mate at Leeds United, Rodon has continued to impress for Farke's side and it feels like a matter of when rather than if his move will be made permanent at this moment in time with fans calling for it.

In the defeat to Preston, the Welshman received a player rating of six with the review: "Did fine. Coped with anything that came his way. May have wanted more from the attacking headers he had in the first period. Important blocks and tackles in the second half as the team came under pressure."

In Saturday's win against Ipswich, he got an eight with the words: "When the visitors were at their most dangerous, throughout the opening 25 minutes, Rodon was superb in mopping up the danger that fell to him around the box. Never really troubled after that to push his mark any higher."

Rodon praises for Leeds performance

Rodon was one of the stars of the show and the centre-back came in for plenty of praise after helping Leeds keep a clean sheet against what has been a free-scoring Ipswich side this season.

Former Ipswich striker Alex Mathie told BBC Sport website: “It’s not been Ipswich’s day today. Joe Rodon has been outstanding at the back [for Leeds]. He looks like a Premier League defender.”

Meanwhile, Yorkshire Evening Post gave the Spurs man a rating of 8 out of 10 rating, writing about his performance: “Solid as you like. Showed physicality where it was needed and dealt with the ball well.”

Rodon was actually Mourinho's last signing but it has got Levy's finger prints all over it.
He cost us £11m and his contract is up in 2025.

From what I see I maintain there is a very good player there certainly one that is very usable with ange. Crazy he was kept behind the likes of Dier and tanganga. I think everyone will be raving about him in the Premier league next season if he goes to Leeds and they come up. Surprised more didn't see what he could do when he did play read the game brilliantly and his positioning was excellent and was comfortable playing out.
