Despite what some people say about our football, we’re doing pretty decent as stats show.

It's not that great though. In terms of shots faced (as well as being worse than City, Liverpool,Chelsea, Utd, we are also worse than Wolves, Leicester, Everton and Watford. Attacking wise we are worse than City and Chelsea and hovering within a shot of (ManU, Liverpool fair do's) Southampton, Fulham, Wolves, Everton.

The most worrying facet though is the XG against, where (as well as being worse than ManC, Liverpool and Chelsea) we are actually worse than Watford, Everton, Leicester and Wolves, and similar to ManU, Woolwich and Bournemouth.

When you consider how ManU are supposedly in a deep crisis, Woolwich have been described as being way too open and Bournemouth are always too open. It's not fabulous reading.

There are lies, damn lies and statistics...

- 1 point better off than at this stage last season
- Best start to a season since 1960/1961.

It’s crazy really, considering we haven’t really played well. Even crazier when you consider that we really should have seen out the three points at Watford. Bodes well.

I keep forgetting that at some point this season we will see our team walking out at the new stadium. Hopefully our injury situation won’t be as bad by then. If we can get to that stage whilst still within sight of 1st place this could turn out to be an interesting season.

This all points to Poch's prioritisation of the psychological side of the game. You could say we've ridden our luck, but you could also say we've earned that luck with the temperament and growing maturity of the side.

It doesn't quite work that way mate. The combined XG shows the quality of shots is far greater than the quality against, this is a true reflection of how football works, you know score more than the team we are playing and we are far better than those teams you would draw comparison with.

It shows we have room for much improvement, something that all of us can see and it's clear that our improvement, especially compared to our previous seasons under Poch is the number of shots we concede on our goal. (Since and including the Inter game, I feel we are getting better). Overall these are good underlying numbers and correctly reflect our current position in the table.

We are not an anomaly, we are still the same team trying to play the same way with the same philosophy. It's fair to say that having 9 of our first 11 not have a pre-season, injuries to Lloris, Vertonghen, Rose, Aurier, Dele, Wanyama, Winks, Lamela, Dembele and a shit RB and Son away on international duty whilst playing every game away from home it's really pleasing and no basis for concern and far from "worrying".

Yours is just a terribly flawed summary ... when you rank all four criteria together you get City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs in that order ... seeing as all these statistics are based on EPL games played this season ... want to hazard a guess at what the top four in the table looks like? ... surprise ...

Here's a bold prediction ... the team with the most points will win the league ... now there's a statistic for you

Didn't know where to put this but o found it interesting. Mad how we aren't even in the top 4 with a stat like that

We seem to be the king of these stats.

Like us being the best team of calendar years and how between 2015 and 2017 we were top based on points won etc.

Yet have not been top once since 2014.

And the last piece of silverware was the League Cup in February 2008. :vertna:

I think even 2014 was because we had the good fortune to play a crap QPR in the lunchtime kick off, 2nd match in. Beat them 4-0.

I hate to think how long before that when we topped the table.

Yeah, that was it. 1-0 against West Ham and 4-0 against QPR put us top at the end of that game week before we got brought back down to earth by Liverpool..

Before that we hadn't been top since 2009. When we were top for the 2nd and 3rd gameweek.

- Still after 10 games, our best start to a Premier League season.
- This time last season we were in 3rd with 20 points. This season we are 5th on 21 points.
- 2 points better off against the same fixtures from last season.

We looked like Tottenham of old against PSV but with a few important players missing. Today, we kept that up and started to look like we're CLOSE to clicking again. With players coming back from injury and heading into what would usually be our strongest part of a season, there is plenty to be positive about.

Our season has been made to look back because of some of our performances and the fact that all the teams above us have been exceeding expectations so far (Top 3 are ALL unbeaten for the first time in the leagues history after 10 games, Woolwich unbeaten in 12 games etc) but we're still there.

Not out of the realms of possibility that Bournemouth could beat Man Utd on Saturday, Woolwich and Liverpool could draw, This would put us back into the top 4, 3 points off of 2nd place and 5 off of a team with a squad deeper than any squad has ever been in this league.
