Of course historical revisionism matters. Not only because we owe it to the victims of the Nazis to report accurately on what they were subjected to and why (In many cases, murdered & tortured due to being left wing) but so we can learn from the past & how evil and twisted the far-right are.
And far-right they absolutely were. Dedicated to a strict racial, nationalistic hierarchy and traditionalist ideals (such as views on homosexuality & women) and in its early years all the parties aligning themselves to the Nazis were right wing.
As
LLB Part Deux
rightly points out, they used 'socialist' to attract disgruntled working-class voters, but that was it. The only remotely socialist elements of the Nazi Party were massacred in the Night of the Long Knives, and after that the Party violently crushed class struggle & continued to murder the left.
"At that time the struggle against Marxism first was raised as a goal of this fight. I then pledged to myself for the first time as an unknown individual to begin this war, and never to rest until this phenomenon was finally driven out of German life".
- Adolf Hitler.
