Biggest load of nonsense I've read on here in a while.

He was in the team and performing when he got injured.

Putting his abilities aside for the moment and taking the Times article as reliable, which it seems to be and was probably leaked by a source at the club, what should the club do in your opinion?

He's told friends he won't play again this season and needs an operation, and the club disputes this.

He's asked for 120k a week and the won't discuss anything while this situation exists, even though he's only got a year left on his current deal.

Which doctors supposedly missed here and miraculously was discovered in Rome? It didn't add up at the time and this latest saga confirms that. To sort these issues out he needs something like cognitive behavioral therapy. I feel sorry for the guy but we have to put the club first and he needs to be moved on and it seems likely he's played his last game for the club.
Seriously mate drop the witchdoctor stuff it's embarrassing. A chipped bone is a chipped bone, it's a physical injury. If we have missed something then that's down to us (medical team, didn't we sack the Ausie doc around the same time?) not the player fault. (I've suffered with back problems for 30yrs, the nock on effects from a sipped disc have been never ending, I've suffered with hamstring, knee, neck, shoulder and hip injuries all as a direct result, most likely caused by nerve damage but even some of Europe's top neurosurgeons don't have the answer. The issues are managed. It doesn't stop me from playing football, running, swimming, cycling as I no longer compete, it did mean it ended a career as a potential professional footballer).

Dembele has hip problems for years, this too is currently being managed, he goes to a specialist in Belgium for treatment. These are all biometric problems and basically in the world of elite sport can hinder elite sportsmen/women to compete effectively at the top level.

Your diagnosis is based on nothing other than two words "hip problem". Given what is out in the public domaine about Lamela's injury I doubt even God would have an idea of what the problem is.

I don't know about nw1 as he is new on here but many people who slated him when he first arrived I think just don't want to lose face. Desperate to be proved write, can't take being made to look a fool yet again since slagging off Rose, Kane, Walker, Eriksen, Dembele...............

A sound theory.... That and/or an insatiable desire to get a £30m refund (retrospective or otherwise) and spend it on the dream player of their choice.

(I know some may claim it hypocritical of me to say this seeing some of my comments about Sissoko, but they are worlds apart in terms of skill, commitment, passion, effort and attitude... Plus, 'laughably' there is a strong argument that, despite virtually a whole season injured, in the couple of matches Erik did manage, he's still made a more significant contribution to our season!)

Has anyone actually got a link to the original Times article? Can't find it and don't subscribe to their rag so can't search their site...

Only thing I see here are the tweets that refer to the times article.... Nothing I've seen links to the original article and some of what I'm reading has been quite conflicted... In at least one case it's the club that wants the op, yet another it's Lamela.

Lamela has not featured for Tottenham since October due a troublesome hip injurySTEVE PASTON/PA WIRE

Érik Lamela’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is in doubt amid tension between the player and the club over the best way to treat his troublesome hip injury.

The Argentina forward, who has not played for Tottenham since the EFL Cup defeat by Liverpool in October, has told friends that he will not feature again this season, but Spurs insisted last night that such a prognosis was premature. Lamela has spent much of the intervening period in Buenos Aires and Rome rather than at the club’s training ground.

The Times has learnt that there has been a disagreement between Lamela and the club over whether he requires surgery, leaving the 25-year-old in limbo as he prepares to enter the final 12 months of his contract.

Tottenham have been very supportive of Lamela, allowing him to return to Argentina to spend time with his family after his brother was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident before Christmas, as well as giving him permission to be treated in Italy by Damiano Stefanini, the physiotherapist at his previous club, Roma. There is frustration at Spurs, though, over his lack of progress.

Mauricio Pochettino, the Spurs manager, said in January that he expected Lamela to be available soon, but two months later he is yet to return to full training. Lamela is back at Spurs after scans and treatment in Rome, but is still training on his own.

Tottenham have just ten Premier League matches left this season as they seek to cement their place in the top four, as well as an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea, so there will be few opportunities to reintegrate him back into Pochettino’s first-team squad.

Lamela had expressed a desire to sign an extension to his £65,000-a-week contract before getting injured, but he has yet to be offered a new deal. Talks are scheduled to take place in the summer but Lamela is unlikely to secure the £120,000 weekly wages that he was hoping for. The club’s reluctance to start talks with Lamela indicates that they may listen to offers for a player they paid £25 million for in 2013.

Sissoko could leave Tottenham in the summerPAUL CHILDS/REUTERS
Another player on the move could be Moussa Sissoko. The France midfielder’s representatives plan to hold meetings with Tottenham next month after he was advised to leave by Didier Deschamps, his national coach. Sissoko has started six league matches since a £30 million move from Newcastle United on deadline day in the summer.

Christian Eriksen, meanwhile, has said that he would be surprised if any of his Tottenham team-mates want to leave this summer because he believes the club can now compete with the best teams in England.

The midfielder is one of several players to sign a new long-term deal this season. Eriksen was among the seven players to join Tottenham with the proceeds of the sale of Gareth Bale when the club were powerless to stop the forward joining Real Madrid in 2013.

“The situation was different, when Bale was sold. Back then Spurs were playing for sixth or seventh,” he said. “Now we aim to stay in the top every season. These days the risk that the biggest profiles are going to be sold is much smaller. A lot of players have signed new contracts and want to be a part of this project in the future. Hopefully there are great times ahead for Spurs.”

Asked what it would take for him to leave the club, Eriksen replied. “I have honestly not thought about that. I live in the moment. Right now more than three years remain on my contract. I feel good and enjoy being at Tottenham.”

Really? We were doing fine at the start of the season when both the players you have named did absolutely nothing. There were calls for Eriksen to be dropped he was so ineffectual, at least when Lamela isn't having a great game offensively he always pushes and harries and makes tackles. When Eriksen has a poor game offensively you don't hear his name mentioned. He starts to shy away from the game, something our Erik never does, even when his 10 other teammates don't give a fuck like at Newcastle. It's pretty clear to see how short your memory is though.

And I said he is unplayable on his day, not just he is unplayable, but way to twist my words asshole.
Youre talking out your arse to be totally honest. Doesn't Eriksen have the highest assists in the league (or at least near the top)? Doesnt Alli have the highest amount of goals for an attacking midfielder? We would miss both far more than Lamela if they were not in the team...it is not even close.

Eriken has probably run more than any other player in the league as well (or is close to number 1) so the notion that he doesn't do his fair share of tracking back is utter bullshit (i take it thats what you meant when you say "you dont hear his name mentioned"). Just utter crap tbf.

It's all very well to champion Lamela, but to denigrate two of our best players this season to do it is a bit low imo.

There's no way he plays for Spurs again. Seems to be miscommunication from everyone and his contract is up next year.

A sad end to his Spurs career. A very likeable player from a Spurs fans perspective. Hard working, creative and said one of the best quotes in modern history when he dismissed Rose's mentions of top four and told him we can win the league.

You're going to run a lot if you are constantly trying to avoid having to tackle :wanyama:

After he finally came good Erik was great for us. However, He's been with us, what, four seasons now? One good season out of four isn't really a good return on a transfer fee of his size in my opinion. If this situation is causing the club problems and it potentially reoccurring in the future (remember all the past stuff about him not being mentally ready in the early days?) then I reluctantly say get rid of him and look for a replacement in the summer. I hate to say it, but if we're to compete at the top we need to be ruthless, and that means we can only be patient for a time when things like this occur, especially if he comes with more baggage than other players.

I like Lamela. He had a style last season that was seriously impressive. It's a shame what's happened but being pragmatic he's simply not been missed. I hope they can get him fit and get him signed up for another deal. Would be cheaper to keep him than to buy someone else. But if Roma want to do a deal then bye bye Erik.

As for Sissoko - who's situation is mentioned in that times Article - what little he has done he has done well enough. If there is a profit to be made then by all means let him go, but I don't see the club selling both him and Lamela in the summer. Nor do I personally want to see Sissoko sold.

I reluctantly agree.

I like him an awful lot and don't for one second entertain the nonsensical conspiracy theories surrounding his absence, but he doesn't warrant the wages he's reportedly after and I think we could sign a better and more consistent player. Hate saying it, because he always gives 100% and was very good last season.

Yep. That's all I'm saying. I mean, say Alli or Eriksen got suspended or injured, it's anm ideal time for a player like Lamela to come in and do the business, and he's not much good to us if he's forever out or not in form, whereas a player without the baggage would be there ready. I've got a feeling that Poch is probably seeing it that way as well. We'll have to wait and see I guess.

This is the point really - whilst Sissoko hasn't forced himself into Poch's plans, or shown the same talent that we saw in the latter stages of the Euros, he's not made any mistakes, got sent off, scored own goals, nor weakened the team at any stage. He has been treated harshly by a large section of fans (both ours and others) who have held him to high standards.

If he goes in the summer, then I'd wish him well and I'd quite happily see us take a hit if it (in another dimension) has held Everton back a little more.

Erik was great last season, but it may be looking like time to see him move on. I imagine it's hard to build a team with a player who is both key, and almost constantly crocked. He makes Ledley King look like the million dollar man. Problem is, we probably won't get much for him due to his contract and injury record.

ENIC are canny enough to do what they need to to ensure that the financial loss on Erik is nowhere near a problem to the club. We can take comfort in that. I suspect we owe to Roma and that he will go back there and the deal will be sweet enough for everyone.

Sissoko has had a few poor displays and his sending off at Bournemouth did him no favors. But to write the guy off is totally unfair. The abuse from the Geordie Maffia and that reported transfer fee fucked him much more than his true ability.

The Geordie's can fuck off. I have no interest in their opinions. They were bloody lucky to have a French international. The Transfer is likely to be installments and nowhere near £30m in reality, but it's a tag he can't escape, if he's given another year then fair enough. GKN or Clinton Cards are flops. I Can't say Sissoko is as shit as either of them options.
