BVB blame Tottenham fans for start of crush last night, German journalist says otherwise
Tottenham Hotspur fans were involved in an unfortunate and potentially very dangerous situation on Thursday night whilst entering the Westfalenstadion.
Supporters were caught outside the ground as gates started to be closed, but there were still many fans entering the stadium, both Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund followers, and with there being less ways to enter the stadium, the ones left open obviously became more crowded.
As fans tried to get into the ground and take their seats, they were met with a limited access route, meaning everyone converged on the same area and a crush developed. There were a number of injuries but the overwhelming opinion coming from those involved is that things could have been worse, and it was a very scary situation.
Ruhr Nachrichten is Dortmund's regional newspaper and they've spoken to Christian Hockenjos, the German club's 'Organisations-Chef'.
Hockenjos, according to the newspaper, explained that the situation was initially caused by 'very late arrival of Tottenham fans'.
'A timely arrival had been specifically requested, but a very large group had arrived just before the game at the stadium.'
It's stated that late arriving Tottenham supporters then went to the wrong entrance and that caused further problems.
However, the balancing of blame doesn't quite fit in with what fans have said, and they're backed up by German journalist Ulrich Breulmann who ended up caught in the middle of it.
Breulmann explained to Ruhr Nachrichten: "At 18.30 I was at the entrance to the North Stand. The fans were quiet, good mood and not a touch aggressive. That it might take some time, they took with patience. It was completely relaxed. This changed from 18:40. Gradually, some of the entrances has been closed to the North Stand. The many waiting football fans - myself included - were shocked.
"I was stood in front of a steward and asked him: "Why in heaven's name close the entrances now" He shrugged and said, "I really can't say, we are only following instructions."
"Also Tottenham fans appealed urgently to the steward to keep the entrances open - in vain. So that's how the situation that pushed even more fans in the direction of the remaining entrances originated."
I love how they keep on blaming it on "a large group of 900-1,000 fans" arriving at the ground...........as if we all go everywhere in blocks of 1,000
Goodness gracious, is that all????????????????66/1
It's not that baffling. He put out a similar side v. Fiorentina and we managed to win 3-0.Had a brilliant time in Germany and seemingly at the ground before any of the trouble with the stewards/police. Can't understand how you can have a beer in your seat for this but can't even buy a beer at half time on a European game in England.
Cracking time in the Altermarkt.
As for the team selection. Genuinely baffling. If you're getting to this stage and not taking it seriously why not just go out of your way to go out of it before Christmas? This was our 11th game in the competition and we choose to rotate now.
We got the result we deserved with that team and needless to say I'd play a weaker one on Thursday, the tie is over without a miracle. Disappointing.
I was in Dortmund. My group were caught in the crush. We were at the stadium before 6:15 (7pm kick off)
Fortunately I managed to avoid it all somehow, but the guys/girls I was with were in amongst it. We were certainly not late arriving to the ground. The police/steward statement is complete and utter bollocks.
I haven't personally as like I said, I wasn't directly caught up in it. However some of the guys I was with have, yes. They have gathered loads of fan accounts, and all of them align accurately from what I hear, which as you'd hope and expect, points further towards the initial account being bullshit.Yes, mate I know. Have you contacted the Trust yet. Someone from your group should let them know!

Proper fans ain't they, bet they would be there if it was 3-0 the other way.'Fans' can't give away tickets for the home leg on Twitter. Some people eh?
Some are saying 'can't make it now - ticket on members card - meet at stadium'.
What can't you make? ochfacepalm:
