Our average home attendance in the 1980s was 28.3k.

People go to rugby, if their team loses they are not that bothered. Ruins my weekend if we lose. This isn't intended as a dig at Spurs, spurs fans or football fans in general. It is merely something I don't understand and think must be a cultural thing with football, England or a combination of both.
On the bold part, I have seen this form part of fans common complaints, and not just from this fanbase. As someone who attends 4 codes of football varying from regularly to sporadically. That being Rugby League, Rugby Union, Football and AFL certain aspects I just cannot get my head around.
1. Why some fans don't like day trippers and tourist matchgoers.
2. Why football unlike any other sport cannot have fans of both clubs intertwined. There's an away end and then home fans.
3. Why football lends itself to hooliganism and bad behaviour*
I can go to a rugby game sat next to a fan from the other club and sit peacefully as we both cheer for our team. Can then go to an A-League game as a casual "day tripper" and get odd looks like there's something wrong with me. Do the same at a rugby league game and no one cares. Then watch my AFL team and not care one little bit that one rogue fan from the opposition is our section and cheering overly loudly for his team or that an American tourist is next to us.
All the while there's no flares, no need for police escorts to our seating area (like we see at NLD's), no need for the police to ask for certain games to be played specific times to mitigate risks relating to public drunkenness and the ensuing anti-social behaviour it causes. And we see this when fans go on European away days as well.
*excluding racism, as sadly that seems to pop up occasionally in most sports.
Those rich pensioners have just had a 10% rise plus about 8% coming in April .I really think this is a very valid point.
I think most people in their minds eye picture a retired person this springs to mind...
When the reality is (apparently 44% of Spurs ST's are +65yrs old??)
I've said for years that the biggest area for concessions at the Club should be geared towards the young. This generation is fucked, this generation is to carry the burden of the excess of the current "baby boomers" who in the history of Western civilization have never had it so good.
There are generalizations here, there will always be retired people who are struggling, a Lady I sat a few seats from at the Old Lane couldn't renew her ST for the New Stadium (neither could I in truth as our seats were front row upper east on the half way line, so went from £1200 to +£5k pa and a multi-year commitment to go like for like).
I will OPPOSE ALL ticket price increases. I will SUPPORT the notion that retired fans should have concessions BUT I believe there should be some radicle new thoughts put into place the reality is the vast majority of +65yr olds are wealthier than 22yrs olds, and isn't the point of concessions is to support those that can't afford to by a ticket?
The lifeblood of the Club is it's fans (match day fans - including those that can only get to 2 or 3 games per season, having an ST doesn't make you a more "deserving fan"). Without new young blood supporters who are priced out of the club, it threatens the very future of the live matchday experience.
I want to see young fans receive concessions AND I want to see the "elderly fan" (I don't know exactly the definition here perhaps +75yrs) get concessions. The idea that a 66yr old with a healthy pension earning him/her an income greater than that of your average 22yr old doesn't sit well at all.
A brave rethink is required, rather than sticking to outdated definitions of wealth of affordability. Always NO to ticket price rises but it's time to think creatively about where concessions should be applied.
With the rising average age of season ticket holders due to pricing out younger fans perhaps they were worried that every holder will soon be an oap.Outrageous Mrs P in my opinion , the hike is bad but phasing out concessions for the elderly is disgusting .
I really think this is a very valid point.

And as I said I'm against ALL price rises. I will and have always opposed them. Those rich pensioners have just had a 10% rise plus about 8% coming in April .
Mate it's far more nuanced than that, isn't it?20% of pensioners are in poverty. 20% of 10mn.
16% of 16-25s are in poverty. 16% of 7.8mn.
Yes, I agree with this Nutter.Trust me. Levy doesn't want kids or OAPs. He wants fans with high disposable income who can buy overpriced beer, food and tat.
It was bound to happen sooner or later after a four season freeze. TBH I thought we were going to get hit last year when many clubs did increase their prices.Unjustifiable. Probably been wanting to do it for a while but because team performance has been such a shitshow and a lot of fans being unhappy with the style of play since the end of the poch reign he hasn't been able to. Our fans being so easily pleased by a bit of attacking football has given him the window to do what's probably been on the cards for a while.
I really think this is a very valid point.

Yeah agree pricing was great in the stadium at the start but a joke nowTrust me. Levy doesn't want kids or OAPs. He wants fans with high disposable income who can buy overpriced beer, food and tat.
I was fully prepared for a 10% hike on STs this year.It was bound to happen sooner or later after a four season freeze. TBH I thought we were going to get hit last year when many clubs did increase their prices.
I'm not saying I agree with it (or the phasing out of the pensioner discount), but prices were not going to stay at the 2020-21 level forever. It will be interesting to see how many don't renew, but I doubt it will be more than 5% or so.
The price of food and drink seems to have crept up and up.Yeah agree pricing was great in the stadium at the start but a joke now
I agree. The pie and a pint for a fiver was a great deal when it first opened, but now it's £6.59 just for a pint. I still buy a couple of beers each per match, but the food quality has gone so far downhill this season that I don't eat there anymore. I used to quite like the chicken pieces and chips, but now it's half a bag (last season it was full) of overcooked dry chicken pieces and the chips are now tasteless potato waffle things. The burger is crap and the pies are awful too.Yeah agree pricing was great in the stadium at the start but a joke now
I got tickets this way when I was at secondary school in Burnt Oak/Colindale around 40 years ago.give tickets to local school kids for free

Gone from one of the cheapest places in Tottenham for a pint to the most expensive now.
