No, I think we probably should have finished 5th as per normal. But let's ignore our highest even Premier League finish and lament that we didn't finish runner up in a title race we were never in.

Fucking two horse race - you sound like the morons on Twitter that support any team except spurs.

And to be honest - it's not the first time I get that feeling.

So you don't think we should have finished 2nd last year, when all we had to do was draw with Newcastle, and you call ME a bell end, REALLY ?
If we'd finished second you would only be moaning that we didnt finish 1st
Everyone was furious about how last seaaon ended but to claim that last season was a failure and that our manager has done 'not bad' at best is laughable even for a troll as prolific as your good self

So you don't think we should have finished 2nd last year, when all we had to do was draw with Newcastle

Make your mind up...when people point out we are second, you tell them that the trophy cabinets dont have any trophies for 2nd or 3rd. So what difference does it make to you.

You are'nt into steady progress. You want a trophy, and would settle for 10th place an the FA Cup, you said.

If we come second this season, and dont win a cup, you will still think Poch hasnt proven a thing.

I have almost (ALMOST) forgotten some spectacular downfall that we had under 'Arry, and I love so many memories of that period. And yes, sometimes I am asking myself who do I think is better : Poch or 'Arry?

I found a very simple way of answering:
Give 'Arry our current squad and give Poch 'Arry squad. Who would do better? I don;t have to think for more than a millisecond about the answer

I get the overall narrative of that article - but even in ultimate "Spursy" mode under Redknapp and AVB we finished above Liverpool.

It took UBER "Spursy" Tim Sherwood and them having Luis Suarez to get them above us once.........would suggest the underlying consistency is with us not them.

They will always be considered a bigger club because of their legacy, but the unfounded idea that Liverpool have been the better team in the last five or six years is pure media rhetoric.

Also, by the time the media get bored of churning out articles about us not being "Spursy" anymore (not that i mind reading about it), we'll probably be back being Spursy again.

"How Spurs got their 'Spursy' back"

I fucking love the feel of togetherness Poch has created... amongst the players and the fans!
We're as ONE!

There's no 'I' in TEAM... but there's a TEAM in TottEnhAM!
(and if we were Liverpool, that would be on a Surfer Flag by now!)

I'm available for motivational speeches throughout February until May... I thankyouverymuch, Goodnight!

If you look at the past 50 years or so, objectively Liverpool's performances these past few years is just a blip. They've won what, like 30 trophies since 1965? No surprise that the media gives them a pass.

The reason the media give Liverpool a pass is because they have a large fanbase. It's all about clicks and selling newspapers. They're not bothered about what they've won in the past.

Been going Spurs for ages, and in my lifetime have only seen us finished 3rd 3 times before last season. When 3rd meant nothing. After each we were back mid table the next.
We went a quarter of a century before finishing in the top 3 again, just let that sink in.
The last 3 seasons, and I hope I don't shoot my load too quick, Look like we might be making progress. 5th, 3rd and this year is looking like better or consistent.
it usually is one step forward, another back.
Example 8th, 4th, 5th, 4th, 5th, 6th. Although we have been punching above our weight, to be considered a big club, top 4 consistently is a must. If he does that and nothing else it's an achievement, especially as there are 5 other clubs financially stronger who expect that, 4 who demand it. It also helps us significantly with making the move more successful .

The Man has had two seasons here, the first was a overhaul. How can he be criticised. He has done extremely well with less at his disposal than the others.
Remember next season is going to be very very hard.

Forgive me, but when did finishing 3rd in the League mean nothing?? I must be missing summit... Ohhhh... you meant back in the dark ages...
from way back in 1992 "B.C(L)" Before Champions League!!
Yeah... football WAS nothing back then!

It seems our progress has coincided with Football explosion... all those mI'd table finishes in an average league probably made us even WORSE than we were!
At least we're doing relatively well now in the BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD TM

Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham have appointed Steve Hitchen as their new chief scout.

Spurs, who elected not to sign any players in the January transfer window, are restructuring their recruitment operation, with head of recruitment Paul Mitchell serving his notice period and former chief scout Ian Broomfield departing in December.

Hitchen returns to White Hart Lane after having a senior role in the Lilywhites’ scouting team when Harry Redknapp was in charge. Midfielder Luka Modric moved to north London during his previous spell at the club.

Pochettino said today: “It’s true about Steve Hitchen. It’s a different position [to Paul Mitchell] but I can confirm he’s been working from Monday.”

While Tottenham are beginning to look ahead to the summer transfer window, they have managed to tie down most of their senior players to long-term contracts.

Eleven players have signed new deals this season, and Pochettino feels that show of faith bodes well for the future.

“The most important step is that the players believe they can achieve their dreams,” said the manager. “If you believe Tottenham is the right place to achieve your dreams, we will be very close to winning trophies.

“For me it’s the first time it’s happened, that in the last few months so many players have extended [their contracts] and shown their commitment. Maybe 80 per cent have shown that and want to be here long-term - it’s my first experience like this.

“When I look at different clubs it doesn’t happen, what’s happened here, which is very good news for us.

“It’s a very good point - to achieve big things the players need to dream and to show commitment with us.

“Time is very important in football. You can spend £400million to build a winning team and buy all the best players in the world and try to win today, or you build a different way to try to win at the end, and for that you always need time.”

Pochettino continued: “For me Tottenham, with the history, is always above every manager, player, staff. That is the most important thing.

“Sometimes we say if we don’t get the Champions League or Europa League it might be difficult to extend the contracts of players who want to win. But come on, Tottenham is bigger than anyone. It’s important to start to be clever.

“I want to play for Tottenham, want to manage Tottenham, because Tottenham for me is a big club with a big history, big fans and in the very short future will be one of the best teams for facilities, with this new stadium.

“The important thing is that Tottenham want to give me the chance to manage here for a long time. That is the most important thing and sets the principle when you arrive here as manager, coach or player. You feel the responsibility is to work and achieve big things.”

Tottenham head to Anfield on Saturday and can move seven points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool by beating Jurgen Klopp’s Reds.

But Pochettino said: “I am thinking of the top of the table. That is not a problem today, whether it’s seven points. Our objective is to reduce the gap against Chelsea and we need to be ready to fight, because it will be a very difficult game.

“For me Liverpool have one of the best squads, if not in England then in Europe, and it’s sure they will be motivated because Tottenham against Liverpool is always a big match.”

Spurs will be without Danny Rose, who suffered a knee injury in last Tuesday’s match at Sunderland, but Pochettino said: “It’s not a big issue, it’s a minor problem. We’ll see, we hope as soon as possible he can be available again.

“He’s very positive we’re very positive. He’s happy. I was talking with him now before this press conference. We’re happy after he saw the specialist.”

How can any Spurs fan doubt that Pochettino isn't the right man to be leading us? The way that he acts and speaks about our club fills me with pride to be supporting us during a really exciting period in our history. Not to mention what is also happening on the pitch, we won't win every game, but we'll certainly do our damnedest not not to lose.

He sure knows how to get the juices flowing doesn't he.

I love the way he talks about winning the title, fuck I like it, rather than all the smoke and mirrors and talking shit down.

Lets chase those chavy cunts down and give them a fright!

COYS

He's sold players, staff and us fans alike his philosophy and mentality, and in return has bought into the Spurs history and football culture, which has made us the envy of clubs here and abroad.

Easily our best coach/manager since Burkinshaw.
I'm convinced good times are coming.

Long may he reign.

Which I agree with!
