Side note, and not just a reflex from Today

VAR has absolutely killed football as a spectacle for the match going fan

Bizarrely, I first said that when it was actually a decision to our advantage. The CL game when Sterling 'scored' very late on, only to be denied several minutes later by VAR. As much as I appreciated that giving us a path to the semi-final, at the time it just felt wrong, and I realised that night that football would never be the same again. It's not like (for example) basketball where there are many points, in football you only have an average of maybe 3 goals per game, so the whole point is that you should be able to go absolutely mental when your team gets one. You can't wait for 60+ seconds to see what VAR thinks, then erupt, euphoria doesn't work like that.

I think I can safely say that since that night, I've rarely celebrated a goal the way I did before VAR. As a spectacle, it has definitely ruined football, surely no one can doubt that.

I think Royal plays 100% better when Romero is playing than Sanchez.
I harp on about this all the time but I think Royal is genuinely very good at passing combinations from deep to work around an opposition press. Sanchez weight and time of pass just does not allow for this. Himself, Romero, Bentancur, Hojbjerg work very tidy triangles in a way I don't think any of our other wing backs are capable of. (Perisic.. but he's an altogether more accomplished player). A real shame he can't make decisive passes in the opposition box, if he did we'd have an excellent player.

Ugly match, we shouldn't be struggling to win against such team.

Our budget way superior to be given such treatment

Close scorelines happen in the Premier League. We should've won by more. Being unhappy about the way we played in the last few games is fair, but this one was a good performance & we deserved a clearer result.

No problem at all for me ... most I've enjoyed one of our matches all season.

We battered them. Shame about the score line, but definitely the improvement in performance we were looking to see.

Just off the tube so have missed the hot TFC takes.

Here’s one from me - fuck VAR. Not many properly celebrated the Kane goal or the Richarlison offside one either. It’s why we all fucking go!!

Anyway - an arse clenching 2-1 which, on another day would’ve/should’ve been 3-0 or 4-0.

Much happier with us in possession today. Lenglet/Romero/Bentancur made a real difference.

Kane & Richarlison v good. Son desperately unlucky but showed signs it’s coming.

Can’t sniff at 14 points after 6 games. Hope this is the kick-on we need to keep getting points AND playing good (better) football…

I’ll be there Saturday, first live game since the pandemic as it’s a bit of a hike for me.

I’m fully expecting to be dazzled by champagne football throughout, Fulham to be totally annihilated, and us to show those other pretenders how to actually do a ten nil. We’ll probably unveil Messi too.

Failing that I’ll have a nice pie and buy something I don’t need from the shop.

The oldest at least will have heard worse at school if my kids class is anything to go by. :contethumb:

I remember being in Junior school and when signing English Country Garden in assembly we always paused slightly in Country. Kids definitely know worse language from school.

Shit, that's what I always fuckin' thought.
