Therefore this argument is moot.

No one knows what a star looks like until they build up that consistency and become that clutch player.

Harry Kane was a star when he left the club, if anyone thinks we will sign a player on that level then they're either deluded or just don't understand how football works.
We should be able to sign a player on Kanes level though.

Or more to point, when we had
Jose/Conte,
CL football
Kane
Son
Incredible stadium
In the premier league

We had no reason not to attract another one. But we failed to add another one.

That's the reality

Stars is such a shit term anyway. Clubs like ours don't sign stars, we are meant to make them

Heh?

Just because we can't and won't sign stars doesn't mean we won't push on, the challenge isn't signing stars, it's keeping them after they've established themselves.
Most players we’ve spent big on have ended up burning us.

We’ve had more success unearthing the cheaper gems like VDV.

Mate. We're the 9th richest club on the planet. THE richest club in London. The highest match day Revenue in England...
We can invest in new hotels and build property all over the place

But we can't afford star players...we have to, ...what was it?

"make our own" :ap:
This 100%

Dragusin wanted by Bayern, Bergvall wanted by Barcelona.

Post Covid and with FFP/PSR virtually every club in Europe are under some form of pressure to sell.
Neither of which have made one single fucking iota of difference for the team this season and one of which is certainly yet another punt on the next big thing, that more often than not Tottenham usually get wrong in recent history.

£30m-ish tops for the 2 of them. Real intent-displaying signings of challenging for things.

When we try to buy off the top shelf we normally fuck it up as well in recent years ... Ndombele, Soldado.

The last star we bought at the top of the market who actually worked out was probably Ginola.

* edit ... Van der Vaart would qualify.

Players on kanes level don't come to spurs. It wont happen until we start winning big trophies which is hard to do when the top players we develop get fed up and leave after a few seasons to go and win plenty for the big clubs, except kane he is cursed lol

Especially when the last time we had a squad on the cusp of winning big things, we didn’t invest to win them.

Indeed, a totally different footballing landscape that some fans can't accept that we've moved on from.

Ginola was one, Klinsmann was the other, anyone else or are folk just gonna keep pretending that we were some club that used to sign them willy nilly every season just because the revisionism makes them feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Edit VDV another one yes...(although that was under ENIC but so I'm not sure if they want to count that as it kills their narrative ;))
