Now that the season and all domestic cup competitions have concluded, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as our new First Team Head Coach. Becoming the first Australian to manage in the Premier League, Ange will join us on 1 July on a four-year contract.

Daniel Levy, Chairman: “Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play. He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy - everything that is important to our Club. We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead."

Lets hope he does - and reverses almost a decade of poor player development from ages 18-21
The nearest we are going to get to an apology for sacking Poch I guess.

It was Poch who stopped the development of most youngsters by insisting they train with first team and neither play in youth teams or go out on loan.... whilst rarely playing anyone more than once on first team and that usually only for a few minutes.

The rot started when he sold off just over a year into his reign Mason, Bentaleb, Townsend, Carroll, Veljkovic et al to net £100m to invest into the likes of Sissoko and other experienced players.

Poch's idea of development of players was to start with players already proven to a large degree - so Kane having scored 3 PL goals in his first 7 starts under Sherwood the obvious example.

Winks the only player to come out of the academy under Poch's methods - not the best in his year group bit but a no 8 very good with mainly short passing ideal for a possession based team but a limited player.

Even Foyth, bought for £10m spent about 2 years training then on his PL debut gives away 2 pens, and in total made about 15 appearances before being moved on to Villareal where he has done much better.

Yup. This makes it a shame we're not even the Europa Conference thingie, since it would have provided more potential minutes for youngsters.

Interesting that Alfie Devine, Dane Scarlett & Yago Santiago are BASE clients, like Ange.

Hopefully the Base link will be helpful - but issue will be that Ange is a much bigger client for Base than all the others are atm so if he doesn't play the youngsters don't expect Base to chase the msanager !.

Agreed.

But given Devine & Scarlett were regulars for England at the U20s World Cup, and are two of our best Academy prospects, I've got to believe Ange will be watching them in pre-season to see if they can be squad players in our imminent high press, high energy, run till ya drop, revolution.

Yeah be nice to see a clear-out now and see the likes of Scarlett, Devine , Donley, Dorrington etc given a chance during preseason and beyond

Harvey White's loan spell at Derby County didn't exactly take off as many hoped it would, but that has not stopped Spurs from offering him a new contract.

The midfielder is now said to be weighing up signing a new deal with the Premier League club as he continues to assess his options.

The problem White faces is that there are a multitude of midfielders ahead of him so first-team chances are going to be limited unless he is sent out on loan again.

He would certainly have plenty of takers in the lower leagues if that were to be the case but would need somewhere that guarantees him regular football.

Tricky decision. I think he makes a decision in pre-season after seeing how he gets on with Ange. Harvey's biggest weakness might be that he's not an 'all action player always on the move and high press' which might be more Ange's type. But we shall see

He is only just 20.
When we talk about players not being good enough in this thread we often mean scaled to where we think they'll end up. I think Mundle is the sort of player where, had he decided to sign a new deal, we might have got a decent fee for him but not necessarily somebody that will make it to the top of English football. He had an okay start to the season and then was quite quiet in games before the january resart and then did well in the second half of the season in a struggling team ending up with 7 goals and 5 assists from 29 games in the league. First half of last season, Markanday got 17 goals and 12 assists in 17 games before he left for Blackburn and, after recovering from a bad injury, was loaned out of Aberdeen where he struggled to get game time. A player performing well in the PL2 doesn't mean they are guaranteed to do well in league football, especially since a lot of the more talented players or older players in academies are loaned out or with the first team. Said it before in this thread and it's obviously not a foolproof metric for estimating the comparitive level of players but worth pointing out that players like Mount, Madueke, Bellingham, Sancho had England call ups all the way through youth level, they didn't come out of nowhere and make their names abroad. Think most of the acad players that have broken through, Kane, Winks, Skipp, Mason, Townsend etc were the same with England youth call ups at each level. Mundle has never been called up...
I hope he does well wherever he goes but don't think you're likely to see a repeat of Madueke who was a level above where Mundle is.

I am looking forward to seeing if a few youngsters can break through under Posto. I am resigned to next season being experimental and hopefully the basis to kick on from.

Archie Chaplin (CB) first pro contract - next season will be in 2nd year academy having done well for Spurs u18's this last season (22/23) - involved in u17 and u18 PL cups as well as u18 league and UEFA u18 Youth League
