Dier is simply put not good enough to be a centre back at this level. He's a DM and that's that. He doesn't sniff danger well enough at the back, even then, in an easy enough case of following your man in such limited time. He's better reading things from slightly higher up the pitch, and also covering full backs when they bomb up field, as we saw last season. And obviously much better being part of building up play, due to be being decent technically.
