This thread seems to have taken a strange turn...

Are we actually discussing the possibility that Adolf Hitler was actually some Socialist Liberal Leftie who would have argued for greater compassion for those seeking refugee status and a better life?

No.

One bonkers bloke has gone off the rails and maybe lost their mind.

Cosby not the best choice of GIF in any circumstance, but I agree with your post

It's gratifying to see that so few here are content to just let this kind of rhetoric pass. Like him or not, it seems that Lineker has lit a fire and that so many people are standing up to back him shows that maybe we're not as apathetic as I had feared.

If this thread in any way reflects our general population, then there's hope for us yet.

That the majority of this country, if the reaction is anything to go by, refuse to allow hatred to rule their thinking is a huge indictment of us as a nation.

I see Lineker's tweet as a warning. It seems I'm far from alone in this thinking.

Whether his tweet is altruistic or not doesn't really matter, the reaction does.

  • 1933 - Thousands of Communists and Social Democrats arrested and jailed.
  • March 1933 - Dachau opens
  • March—April 1933, an estimated 40,000 to 50,000 political foes imprisoned in concentration camps
  • The SA and SS routinely beat up and tortured political opponents and vandalized, looted, or destroyed leftist parties’ offices
  • Individuals murdered
  • June '33 - all Reichstag and state assembly representatives from the Bavarian People’s Party put in “protective custody"

Yes, very 'left wing'
So you think Lineker was right to compare the current Tory party with the above. Whilst he might not have used those words the implication is there. Can you not see the reason it was out of order.

He didn't use the words, you're inferring his meaning according to your own perspective.

He compared the wording to that used in 1930's Germany, which was a rhetoric used to incite fear and hatred in the populace against not just the Jews, but anyone perceived to not meet their ideals.

Can you not see the reason why the wording is out of order?

The Nazis provided slave labour to private companies, who made private profits. Household names of today have quite a terrible history, BMW is one example.

That's about as far from socialism as you can get. Honestly, I thought it was just the odd few redneck yanks who thought "socialist in the name, Hitler was left wing!"

You would have to be an incredibly stupid cunt to believe this. Hitler played up socialist rhetoric to gather working class support, the Nazis were fascist when they had absolute power and they made good with the rich German industrialists of the day.
