...is there such a thing as a 'Must draw'?

It's a must not lose I guess...

Can't believe it's going down to the final day... coulda had 2nd all but sewn up 3 weeks ago!

I'd long since been resigned to the fact we weren't gonna win the title against Fairytale Dilly-Ding-Dilly-Dong F.C

Let's just fucking do this. Eh, Spurs?

Why don't you just stop being such a scapegoat seeking cunt :dembelefingers:

There was a lot of factors in our poor showing today. Mason had a stinker, yes. But he's one of our own just as much as Kane is. Like it or not, he's had a big part in the development, we've been through with Poch. There's always room for discussion as to whether or not we've moved beyond him and his abilities. He, just like Carroll, deserves better than simpletons blaming one person for the performance of 12+ individuals performance over 90 minutes.
"he's one of our own" means nothing when his inclusion in the X1 practically destroys our rhythm and leaves us open every single time. Of course there's other factors why we lost but i'm of the opinion we have already lose half the battle when he starts due to his deficiencies.
Poch is brilliant but why he decided to drop Benteleb after 1 bad game after his return yet continuously giving Mason chance after chance despite being ridiculously poor is mind blowing.

Who the fuck would you suggest we start then? Honestly. We don't have any player who can come in and fully replace what Dembele does, but we do have a good midfielder who can come in and do things differently in Mason.

We'd have lost the midfield battle for sure if we played Kevin "I told you I'm not a midfielder" Wimmer in there.

If we don't finish above Woolwich after all this I'm jumping off the fucking Tyne Bridge after the game. These players owe us that much.

Why? I get it - it'd be nice to finish above a rival - but finishing above us is much more important to them than it is to us.
The meltdowns during the season are funny but if they took it so badly as I'd assume they would...well, I hope none of them do anything silly if we do end up 2nd. o_O

bentaleb is naturally miles better than mason.
Once poch falls out with u, then thats it.
Be a shame when bentaleb goes as i really rate him.

I hope we send him on loan to another premiership team like bournemouth next season.
He needs regular football. Let him play & develop for a season.
A few cup games is no good.

Am I right? ...So IF Sunderland beat Everton (possible) then Newcastle are down regardless of final game result. Then It should have draw written all over it.

If Sunderland decide just to draw against Everton then Newcastle will have hope of staying up with a win.

Oh well we like excitement at Tottenham.

Its never easy. It's not how we do things

I'm sorry, but I hate all this bollocks (like Poch has been saying) about "we should stop looking at what they're doing". Football is to a large extent about tribalism and rivalry, of course we will be looking at Woolwich, Chelsea and West Ham, and then to other teams, and comparing ourselves to them.

But it's not just about that, it's also about finishing second in its own right. Finishing runners up is a far better achievement than third, especially after we've occupied that place for so long.

And if you think they don't care about it, you couldn't be more wrong. Us finishing above them has a big impact on the Wenger out movement and how popular it is, by all accounts.

Besides, trying to be care less then another club does about rivalry, is- after all- just another form of rivalry.

So you're suggesting moving the best CB in the league out of his pairing so what, we win the midfield battle but find out that our two left sided CB's can't form an effective partnership? You realise this is the most football manager based logic ever right? Toby has good control and passing so let's put him in midfield because he's clearly a better midfielder than any of our specialised midfielders.

no..the only "football manager based logic" i see is you stating 2 left sided cb's can't form an effective partnership. Of course ideally you would want a left sided and right sided cb but what's to say Vertonghen and Wimmer can't form a good partnership?
You last sentence is meant to be sarcastic? if it's a serious question i'll answer. YES TOBY IS A BETTER MIDFIELDER THAN ANY OF THE SPECIALISED DM'S AVAILABLE FOR THE NEWCASTLE GAME (bar Dier of course). Hence why i'm saying he should start in that position. He's played that position before for Southampton and played it extremely well (i think he won that motm award in that position a few times for Southampton).
I agree Toby is one of the best cb's in the league but in our last 3 games we've looked extremely shaky at the back. It's not as if we've done brilliantly at the back lately and i'm saying we should change it. Alderweireld's positional sense compared to Mason's is really not comparable....we need him and Dier sitting. Newcastle will be going out all guns blazing so hopefully we can pick them off.

Let's just do this. Whatever it takes, however ugly it has to be. One point is all we need. One. Any more will be a bonus but please let us finish above the nomads

:avbpray:

Let's hope Sunderland get a result on Wednesday - if they still have something to play for on Sunday could be dangerous

Our defense has looked shaky, but changing the personnel and having a left sided player playing on the right usually doesn't work. This isn't football manager logic, just real life logic. Left sided CB's are rare and as a result almost exclusively play on the left hand side. I don't think having two left footed CB's in defense at the same time is a great option.

As for Mason, give him a fucking break, not because he's one of our own, but because last season he proved that he is more than capable of playing very well in the middle of the pitch, and at the start of this season he looked like doing the same again. He's not had much game time, definitely but I'm more than confident that he and Dier can win that midfield battle. And if not him, Bentaleb and Carroll are both good enough to come into that match.

Everyone is talking like we might as well be playing Real Madrid on Saturday.
