Nothing is weird about it. Trust me if he has had nerve damage (during/following his back fracture) then having what feels like muscular strains and pulls without there actually being a pull or tear to the muscle happens. Just like a pull or tear you are unable to walk, put weight through it or have full range of movement, yet the reality is there is no muscle damage, no damage means it doesn't show up on a scan. I know this because this is what I've experienced first hand for the past twenty years. I also have soft tissue hip issues that not a single specialist has been able to properly diagnose, most likely cause is a damaged sciatic nerve which runs through the small muscles and ligaments in the hip.

So, because an injury doesn't show on a scan doesn't mean there isn't an injury. Unless of cause I have the same mental disease as Lamela that invents pain and symptoms of soft tissue complaints.

I'm not saying this is what is the issue with him, anyone that claims to know is a liar. I'm just stating a few facts about the possibilities of the problems that can be experienced. If he does have nerve damage then I doubt the club will not disclose this as he is likely to be stuck with it for the rest of his life, not good for re-sale values.
Very good post. Nerve damage or psyatica of some degree could well explain this and you are right that it isn't something that the club would want to publicise if they want to get any sort of fee for him in the summer.

I think we're at the stage now where any team looking at him would carry out more than the normal tyre kicking check. If he has something that causes him discomfort and pain (regardless of what it is) it will be very difficult to hide.

Wish we knew what was going on but the club know false dawns piss everyone off... What is there to say? He's training and being assessed daily. Between him, the coaches and the medical staff they are doing what they can. Sometimes it happens. Look a Cisse for Liverpool, big signing and two broken legs... not his fault and a great talent wasted. Gazza was never the same... So could be worse, half our team could be crocked with season long injuries, in times gone past we had more on the table than pitch. That's why Graham changed things.

And the rumour mill trundles round & round & round. I'm getting to the stage where I hope the club comes out and says he needs a hip replacement & wont ever play again. I mean, he's either completely fucked beyond repair, or making it all up cos he's swinging the lead.

I don't really, but ffs the negativity on here about the poor bloke is staggering. Can't we just get behind our player & wish him a speedy recovery?

Three cheers for Lamelas return...Hip Hip... replacement.

I think what he's saying is you can pull any number of random stats to show how well or poorly a player is playing to support your argument.

I get that, perhaps i was being over zealous. But my response was made in the context of this thread where previously there was a serious amount of stats denial going on.

...and one or two made up stats floating about.

Yes i'm the first to admit that statistics can be a double edged sword, but my issue is with those that state:

"i don't believe in stats in football, i like to watch the game with my own eyes"

Saying "stats in football are useless" is like saying "all drugs are bad"

Ive clarified my position anyway.
