What is the rule about offside when the ball is played to someone onside and then they pass it to someone who was initially offside? If they are behind the ball when it's passed that's fine right? The sky commentary was confusing.

It isn’t, he is challenging for the ball when it occurs and you cannot prove it was a deliberate throw of the elbow.

Referees will only give red cards for elbows they are satisfied are deliberately thrown. They have been very consistent on this.
didnt think it had to be deliberate tbh.
And cash didnt even look at the ball. Straight through the player

Not talking about Cash.

Carlos I think, Villa CB, trying to stop Gil from challenging the keeper for the ball, elbows Gil square in the jaw.

Not a play for the ball or a challenge to get it, he's trying to physically remove Gil and used his elbow.

Clear penalty. could be a red.

Not read what others are saying but we knew our defence was suspect and conceding 2 goals was about what I expected. However we had a number of our first choice attackers playing and created many chances but poor finishing and the inability to stay onside was our downfall. Sometimes instead of shooting they tried an impossible pass and we lost the chance but it was unforgivable for experienced footballers to be offside so many times. Son was the worst offender and must take a good part of the blame for us only scoring once. If Villa’s defenders can be disciplined enough to hold the line then so must our attackers.
whilst not watching Villa before this season, the commentators said that Emery had them playing for offside and we should have been prepared.

Some good points but I thought Gil was our worst offender

No confidence in himself and wasted some good shooting opportunities

Hard not to be frustrated by the result. We had and muffed our chances. Good to see Ange ball back and the second string team playing it against a very good side in good form with some utter cunts for players. Matty Cash needs a shiv in him.

Finley?
Tf is that?
