I remember being a kid with Dalglish, Graham (scum) and Ferguson of course scooping most of the trophies, many more Scots managers before that always thinking they were smarter and more cerebral than the "lets av em!!" English style of management with less depth than a paddling pool

I lived just off it for about 4 months; must be ten years ago now. Top floor tenement flat. 2006 World Cup. I was pished every day. Either my zenith or nadir, depending on how you care to perceive it. I read books while sitting on the window ledge, legs dangling above the Leith street below. A city unwinding in that nocturnal half-light one can expect during a Scottish summer. Could never recall much plot - one of the things about drunken reading. Solzhenitsyn was a favourite at that time, I remember that much. Never owned a telly you see, so I watched the games in boozers and read in that one bedroom flat. Zidane added to his legend that year, as did Del Piero. I had a liaison with a German/Hungarian woman while her boyfriend fulfilled an ambition to travel in Argentina. We broke it off when I disappeared to Arizona for a wedding engagement. It was a splendid summer, all things considered.

Fife is fucking depressing. You did well to leave that shitehole. I lived in Edinburgh for 4 years and pretended to hate Glasgow... until I actually spent some decent time there, and I do like it a lot - apart from the football clubs. Generally I've found that the two big cities and countryside are fantastic in Scotland, but the towns are pretty shocking.

I knew no different from small town Scotland (ex-mining and ex-fishing), to the extent that I didn't know it was possible, nay normal, to go out for a night without scrapping until I moved away. That being said, I have fond memories of places like Kirkcaldy and often imagine moving back. Perhaps the Fritzl kids yearn for the ArcspacE ArcspacE -type basement existence(?).

Kirkcaldy - are you serious? Have you been to the town centre recently? It's pretty fucking gash. Some nice houses maybe. I had a good friend from uni there (i.e. ages ago) but it seemed like a shocker of a place. You're much better where you are.
