He retired, he didn't die....
Sorry mate I wasn't asking for opinion just confirmation. I ask because I am pretty sure the commentator for Kings testimonial said the number was retired (the highlights are no longer available on Spurs TV so can't check), but I haven't heard anything offical from the club.
(Not that I don't find your opinion of value of cause and agree that to retire it is over the top, it should be an honour for the next person to where it)

I didn't hear that at all. You mean on the website or at the actual game? There was no mention of retiring shirts at the Lane on Monday unless it happened when Boris Johnson gave his video message, which was the 2 mins that I would out of my seat for.

I am reffering to the commentator for the highlights clip from SpursTV that was released the following day, I might of cause have dreamt it.

26 isn't a traditionally iconic number in terms of football (or any sports tbh), no one is going to choose it unless they have a specific reason to, unlike, say, number 7 which is classically a midfielder's number.

I think it should be retired, I personally don't want to see anyone else wearing that number. In many other sports it's among the greatest show of appreciation a team can give a player, and for someone like ledley who only played for us at his level and for so long, I think it's deserving.

Only problem with this is you can only have 99 legends...

I'm the same age / school year of that famous Senrab side always followed them, always wondered why Ledley and scumbag Terry both had number 26 or if it was a coincedence? wonder what they genuinely thought of eachother.

I think it said in Ledley's book that they didn't really socialise with each other away from football, I took that to mean he hates him

Sis got me a signed copy I still haven't read it yet, shame on me will do over summer. Yeah I bet there was a huge power struggle between them in that side, mouth vs ability. Very interesting
