Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I was born in 82. I remember Italia 90 as my significant football following moment. So, a group of best Spurs players of my life time are:
Gascoigne
Ginola
Bale
Modric
Linekar
Klinsmann
Armstrong
Berbatov
Carrick
Davids (although he was over the hill with us)
Lloris
Sheringham
Waddle

I don't acknowledge King or Anderton as Spurs greats because of their injury/fitness issues.

Toby and Jan will probably be remembered as greats but generally I'm keeping the jury out on current players, with the exception of Lloris who is the best goalie I've seen in a Spurs shirt.

To go against the grain, I'd find it hard not to include Friedel in our squad, even as a 'sub'.

Very underrated for us.

Hard to compare the likes of Jennings to Lloris, as it's a completely different game to what they had to put up with back then.

99/2000 are really my earliest memories of football so my team would be.

Hugo
Walker Toby King Rose
Bale VDV Modric Ginola
Berba Kane

Subs:

Robbo
Jan
Carrick
Dembele
Eriksen
Keane
Defoe

Too early for Dele but he's head and shoulders ahead of any English talent we've had in this era at his age.

That team would walk the current premier league.

There's a definite 'back then' and 'now' split between many people's faves...

In no particular order - seeing as we're doing this;)

Players who I never saw play, but wish I had:
Jennings & Ditchburn (can't split the two, so won't try)
John White
Danny Blanchflower
Dave Mackay
'Martins' Chivers
& Peters
Jimmy Greaves

...and I wish i'd have seen Bill Nic in his managerial pomp!

Those who I saw with 'mine own two eyes':
Hoddle
Perryman
(Mr. Tottenham)
Roberts (not for skill, but a pure, unadulterated love for Spurs)
Ardiles
Danny Thomas
C.Allen
Waddle
Gough
Gascoigne
(without doubt the most gifted player - bar Hoddle - to pull on a Spurs shirt)
Gary 'The Boy Line-Acre' Lineker
Klinsmann
Campbell
(sorry!)
King
Ginola
Bale
Modric
VdV
Berbatov
(he still makes my heart skip a beat, even as recently as this afternoon!)

...and of the recent crop who are still here
;
Lloris (surely the best we've had since Jennings... I for one never warmed to Clemence!)
Rose & Walker / Toby & Jan (who, as two pairings, are fast becoming legendary members of the Spurs' defence)
Dier & Dele (without one, you don't have the other)
Kane (see 'Roberts' above... but add the ability!)

Actually... that's quite a list! I'm sure we could find a 'Best all-time Spurs XI' outta that lot!

I thought this was a 'Best Players' thread, not necessarily favourites - I love Stevie P with every fibre of my being, but even I could never put him in as world class.
No one ever put in so much effort or tried so hard whilst wearing a spurs shirt so that gets him in my top 3. Yes it may be through rose (or lilywhite) tinted glasses but undoubtedly he was a more than useful centre midfielder, often underrated in the mould of a Wanyama or Kante. Every team needs one and we were lucky to have him!

Having thought about this during this evening, I'm going to choose a PL era XI...

....................... Lloris
Alderweireld - King - Vertonghen
Walker.............Modric.............Rose
.....................Van der Vaart.....Ginola
...........Berbatov.............Kane

Subs:
- Friedel
- Parker
- Sheringham
- Klinsmann
- Carrick
- Bale
- Lennon

Really hard to leave out some names, but I went for a team that I though would work well together.
The 3 CBs speak for themselves - I'm not a huge Vertonghen fan, as he has a lot of flaws that are exposed, however they tend to disappear when he's alongside a good CB partner. Alderweireld is brilliant, and King is just a phenomenom. I couldn't think of a better 'dream' defence.
Rose and Walker on the wings - maybe it's just fresh memory, but they just work so well as wing backs and could spark a counter attack with pace, whilst also being good defenders.
Modric, interchangeable with Parker or Carrick, would make a great deep-lying playmaker.
Van der Vaart sat in the hole behind Kane (who I see as a superior version of Sheringham, controversial but hey), and then Berbatov to be a committed front man (whilse Kane likes to drop back). I could imagine Berbatov being able to supply Kane with lethargic pin point balls, whilst being that incredible 'goal from nowhere' freak he was.
Ginola would have a free-role, as he can just do whatever he pleases. I imagine he'd be a handful in that role.

The subs are straightforward - Benny of a certain vintage might have made the bench, but it's only so big. I'd still have Lennon, as he just offered so much. Bale I think is too selfish (again, controversial) to make the team perfect, but I'd still have 2010 Bale on the bench. Klinsmann has to be in the mix, but I just don't think he would get in ahead of a Berb/Kane pairing.

Just my opinion of couse, but I can't imagine a more title-worthy first XI.
