That does kinda make sense.

Don't drop serious coin on a player to warm the bench, the reality is a decent player wont come if that's the plan anyway, but someone who can slot into the first team and change position to striker or deputise when called on is a good policy.

It's a way to improve the first team, give us options and not waste money on a has been. Some people advocate a young prospect as back-up... Don't we already have that in Parrott? Whilst we want to lad to get chances we probably don't want him leading the line against Liverpool this season.
Leão is 188cm tall. So his prime position is obviously as a center forward but he is also able to play as a second striker. So he can play in three different positions.

Leão also has a few more seasons in him than Troy. And I think that they would compliment each other in the future if we were to get Rafael. A classic big man+smaller man duo.

Just a thought on the "will play better with better players around him" theory...... In the case of our back-up striker, a lot of their game time will come as part of our B team so that's not given.

for a lanky player he has great control and balance. Haven't seen much of his scoring exploits but looks happy to run at a man whilst maintaining close control. Wouldn't hurt to add a little more height to the team.

not if they are versatile and can also play on the wing. They will get more opportunities and we're likely to be able to sign a higher calibre of player with this strategy. It's a hope and certainly not a fact...

He only scored 6 goals in Serie A this season, and 8 in his previous Ligue 1 campaign.

The obvious caveat is that Milan as a unit were awful during the fall part of the season.

I meant in the fundamental capacity of them being our back-up ST.

(i.e. The theory that they'll get more chances to score, when the drop in quality from (eg) playing with AC Milan might not be significant compared to the creativity of our B-team.)

It's in this capacity where they'll matter the most... We have 6 players who can play the wings already.
