People wonder why Hitchen lost his job. He should never work in any recruitment position ever again.

What a fucking disaster our recruitment was pre Paratici. Fixing the mess he inherited is much harder than people think.

I blame a combination of Hitchin and the mangers at the time.

Hitchin was a 'Chief Scout' , not a DoF, so the senior 'football' person involved was the manager who was either directly of indirectly his boss and had a degree of involvement in the football decisions being made. Managers interview players well before they are signed so any personality/mentality/aspirational potential issues should be spotted and addressed, and not come as a surprise after signing.

Worth a quick recall of recent windows under Paricicti :

Summer 2021 (for Nuno)
Romero, Royal, Gil, Sarr, Gollini (loan) (5 players)

January 2021
Bentancur, Kulusevski (2 players)

Summer 2022
Richarlison, Bissouma, Perisic, Spence, Forster, Lenglet (loan) Udogie (loaned out) (7 players)

January 2023
Porro, Danjuma (2 players)

A nice blend of experienced players for the 'here and now' and ones mainly to develop for the future..... and I think all improve the squad, recognising that Royal was bought as a RB for a back 4 etc.

Some of the summer 2022 players still to really reproduce the form they have showed before, but that's not unusual - Son had a rocky first season before becoming a consistent 20+ scorer/assist maker for about 5 seasons. And nobody brings in players who are 100% successful, but Paraciti's failure rate is reassuringly low

As always, another window or two should show continued squad development

Hope Barnsley won't mind us leaving Adam Hayton on our u21 list!

And BLF is not on the list.
I know they have got hundreds of players from all the clubs to deal with but this is a fecking multi-million pound industry. They can't employ competent people?

BLF is aged 22, so cannot appear on u21 list.

In Spurs u21 matches he is technically an 'over age' player who is a Spurs player but not registered in squad of 25 to play in PL matches. Would also be eligible to play in FA cup matches.

So not a mistake I think

Of course.
My stupid mistake.

Maybe not really the thread for it but... this is quite interesting. We're really missing his influence in defence.

That is total nagging, but techincally Maksim Paskotši is mainly a RB. He has played on the fullback position when used for Spurs in preseason games, and for Estonian NT he also mainly plays RB. It seems that in last 2 games he played for our U21 (surprisingly wins against Dippers and Arsescum) he played in LB. His build is not for playing CB either, so...

But generally - thanks for the all the posted info :) !

To only have one player in the current first team squad just 2 years later really shows how poor our recruitment has been.

Not to mention summer 2019 to bring in Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sessegnon and Clarke ...... with one player still left in current first team squad

Well... not that I would like to argue much.
But from the 7 players, 2 were loans (Bale and Vinicius) and let's be honest here - Hart was ageing GK brought for peanuts who was never expected to hang around long.

But agreed in that sense, that 2019 was much worse overall impact. With transfer fees + salaries, 200+ mil spent and we got fucking nothing to show for it :( .

In fact as said later - our scouting and recruiting was absolute fuckup in period of 2016-2021. Just shocking really. Without some outstanding performers like Kane and Son we would have been in so deep shit.

I think we went for Rodon because Jose couldn't get Kim for cheap. Only PEH was a decent signing....

It just shows how bad Levy/ENIC has been........
