Never stopped trying, IMO has to do too much offensive work, due to Biss offering little going forward and Bents so off form. Hopefully improves week on week and can stay injury free until the end of the season.

We WANT him to be playing primarily in an attacking role...... He's the only one in our team that can do what he does.

When teams sit back as Palace did he's arguably our most important player. He's the only one that can really create or do a bit of something out of nothing which is exactly what's needed against organised teams that sit in. I fully expect him to play a big part for us on Sunday when we get something against Villa.

Funny of you to say that, cause the one who really created something out of nothing was Brennan Johnson, after his assist the dam broke.

I think Porro is close to that level tbh. Who we missed alot too.

Sure, and he deserves a lot of credit for it. But Maddison is the one that will usually offer that extra bit of craft and creativity to unlock a defence. He's someway off his best but his performance against Palace was a big step in the right direction.

Was good the whole game today. His runs in the first half that don’t get picked out because nobody wanted to pass the ball more than 10 yards were excellent. He moves so much off the ball that most don’t see. His goal is class. That’s not an easy finish and his desire to get there won’t get mentioned enough. He played like an old school midfielder today. Taking it deep, going by people, playing clever passes, finding great areas off the ball, making runs and scoring a goal. What more can we ask for??

He's back IMO.

Will start pulling teams to pieces again now.

so we're going to continue to start him the centre in the hope he creates something whilst getting steamrolled through the middle? we're not even going to attempt to start Bentancur and offer more protection to the other 2 cms?

Like I've said before other managers move their creative player to the wide position to allow them the opportunity to build their performances up and gain confidence.
Pep initially with Foden and still with Grealish, Redknapo did it initially with Modric, Mourinho with Mata at Chavski.

Ange instead decides to play Johnson on the left, continue with Kulu who is badly off form and continue with Maddison who is invisible for most games since he's been back.

He was a large part of the problem. That midfield three let us down big time.

That's not a system issue. We know the system can work with those three. They just simply shrunk. Maddison was being bypassed constantly. Sarr decided to have an off day and Bissouma... Well. Less said the better.
