It’s the week of two draws of interest. CL draw is clearly getting most of the attention but the Football League Cup one is this evening.

As always, I’m hoping for a local/London away game of interest at an interesting or new ground. Charlton, Crawley, Brentford would all do for me. I’d normally say Fulham but they were comprehensively beaten by Crawley, who are 91st in the football league.

Round Three ties will take place week commencing 7 November.

Ball numbers for the round three draw are as follows:

  1. AFC Bournemouth
  2. Woolwich
  3. Aston Villa
  4. Blackburn Rovers
  5. Brentford
  6. Burnley
  7. Charlton Athletic
  8. Chelsea
  9. Crawley Town
  10. Crystal Palace
  11. Derby County
  12. Everton
  13. Gillingham
  14. Leicester City
  15. Lincoln City
  16. Liverpool
  17. Manchester City
  18. Manchester United
  19. Milton Keynes Dons
  20. Morecambe
  21. Newport County
  22. Nottingham Forest
  23. Sheffield Wednesday
  24. Southampton
  25. Stevenage
  26. Tottenham Hotspur
  27. West Ham United
  28. Wolverhampton Wanderers
  29. Brighton & Hove Albion
  30. Leeds United
  31. Newcastle United
  32. Bristol City

I'd love a bit of Crawley away...we need revenge for the 6-1 defeat we suffered in a pre season friendly about 15 years ago.

Will be on the scrounge for a ticket if we get them.
I think I went to that too. Rose, Kane and a few other decent pros were in the squad. I actually went to the Crawley-Fulham game last night. It’s a good tight ground for a game… and still has terracing, albeit very small.

Round Three draw of the Carabao Cup will take place live on Sky Sports tonight (Wednesday 24 August) following the conclusion of Tranmere Rovers v Newcastle United which kicks off at 19.45.

Probably a controversial opinion, but I partly wish they would do the entire draw right from the start. Saves you having to guess if it’s worth putting effort into the tournament at all.

I see why people like the draw one round at a time though, as it keeps you guessing whether you’ll have an easy draw or not.

Honestly, the top 6 (especially man city) are so dominant that you’ll rarely ever see small sides make a decent run anymore and it ruins the drama.

It’d be nice if there was a tournament where the previous league or cup winner can’t participate the following season to try and create some more parity.

I think they’ll be lots of weakened teams being played this year, even more than normal, so one or more big team will come a cropper early on.

The tournament is in its death throes and can’t go on in its present form much longer.

It’s still hugely valued by lower league clubs as a potential revenue driver… and in the final stages it’s clearly a tournament the big clubs want to win.
