mad how its just accepted that these state owned clubs can basically do what they want. how are all the other clubs just allowing it to go on? absolutely killing the sport.
IIRC Man City and Chelsea were seen as any other takeover and not taken seriously and Newcastle's takeover was accepted due to dodgy dealings from the government.

The reason its allowed is because football is low scoring. This would not be tolerated in Basketball or American football because it would make a total mockery of the sport. In football most countries have teams that have always dominated anyway so its seen as a continuation of that.

Interesting theory.....

Worth remembering though; that when games reach 7, 8, 9-0 etc. they become seen as a bit of a joke......

Even City's 6-0 FA Cup final win over Watford was greeted with derision from some quarters of the game.

A slaughter is a slaughter whether it's England hitting double figures against San Marino or a basketball team scoring north of 100 points.......... If such a margin becomes too commonplace, then the sense of sporting competition becomes less compelling.

The EPL has (esp. in more recent times) prided itself with being more competitive than most other leagues..... In that respect it's madness that they are only too happy too 'sleepwalk' out of said scenario.

Most football games dont get that bad, if there was an equivalent of a Man City in basketball the scoreline would be a joke very often. Mainly because in basketball you have way more chances to score and dominating a game always translates to way more points on the scoreboard. And as we know in football you can completely dominate the game and only win by 2 or 3 goals.

I heard the government basically pushed for the deal to go through so approval from the other teams might not have been needed.

The only genuine sticking point was the TV rights piracy issue..... Once the fine was approved and agreed to; any other suggested objection magically melted away.

Basically, money spoke.
