I’d still say he’s the most dangerous player on the planet, but I agree that we can beat them. It’s all about keeping shape. They’ll hate the pressing game, but would exploit the space if we don’t stay well drilled when executing it.

It will be an interesting tactical battle. They tend to build slowly, then over commit a little on breaks. They’re a bit more precise, whereas we’re a bit more tenacious, but there’s not a huge difference in approach.

They’re certainly not the fantabulous team they used to be. After the Madrid games we shouldn’t be afraid of anyone.

I actually think Liverpool and City are the hardest teams we could now face. Brilliant teams with brutal pressing.

We are witnessing a power shift in football as money is taking over.

I guess the 'Spurs' nickname is the most used so kinda has your Hotspur part

I wouldn't mind Spurs, I'd prefer Tottenham Hotspur but everything seems to be just Tottenham for some reason. Understandable but the Hotspur is the romantic part of our name, I remember hearing it and just falling for it and all it's power & uniqueness when I was a kid. Still, only a name though I guess but it's our name, that kinda thing

Four times in the CL and three of the draws have been pretty brutal, only once have we had an easy group and we did poorly that year. What I love is how we relish playing the best teams. The likes of Woolwich when they were in it were always desperate to avoid the biggest teams because they feared them. We on the other hand are fearless. It's what comes of wanting, and waiting, to be in the competition for so long. Once you make it you are just going to go for it.

Dr Rocktopus Dr Rocktopus says it all very well. In the 90s I remember going round my mates houses in the week to watch the big clubs like Utd, Liverpool, Woolwich, and even Newcastle play these big teams in the CL and it was so frustrating not being anywhere near it.

We're in it playing some of the best teams again and we have the talent to win every match up. We have one or two players who would walk into even Barca's team so we have every chance of showing them up.

Remember getting back into Europe and losing to kaiserslauten in 1999 this was the team

Tottenham Hotspur (4-5-1): Walker; Carr, Perry, Campbell, Edinburgh (Young, 76); Leonhardsen, Freund, Sherwood, Clemence, Iversen; Armstrong (Ginola, 81).

Yes George Graham decided that ginola should be a sub the only player in that bag of shite fit to have the cockrel on his chest. We have come a long way chaps a long long way

For fucks sake Carr left us to go to Newcastle to better himself.

The schedule seems to line up nicely. Away at Inter to start is good for us as they are still trying to come together as a team, and that’s basically the make or break match, so we can put ourselves in a fantastic position to advance.

And no one is going to tell me we can’t take points off Barca. We took 4 points off Real Madrid.

> and yet Real won the last three Champions Leagues.

Barcelona thanks..waited a long time for revenge for the 82 semi final the dirty cheats that night..I know it's different now to see what they have evolved Into and getting to see one of best football players ever in messi will be fantastic.

Barcelona only scored one goal in away group games last season and that was an own goal. They only scored one away goal in knock out games too. They're still the team to beat domestically but they've been a declining force in the CL for a while.

I agree that they are definitely beatable, but I think they're at least in a position to be stronger in attack than they were last year.

-The other Dembele is fit and firing on all cylinders.
-Coutinho only joined them midseason, and even then wasn't settled in the side.
-They have Malcom as well to give them quality depth in attack.

I still think we will take at least 3/6 from them, but I doubt they'll be as shit away from home as they were last year...

Must have had a few injuries that week if Clemence was playing in the outfield........

This is what it’s all about.

As a fan that endured the whole of the 90s I remember how excited I was when we qualified for European football again. Playing the likes of Besiktas felt magical, whilst the pipe dream of CL football played out like an unreachable rainbow in the distance.

The game against the Sheik Mansour team where Crouch scored the winner was by far and away the most nervous I’ve ever been when watching a game. It felt like a war for the keys to the promised land. Love him or loathe him, Redknapp (with a little help from King, Bale, VDV, Modric, and the rest) did us proud with those famous wins against the two Milans.

Last season we all felt that moment when we held Madrid in Spain, and smashed them at Wembley. The comeback against Juve was an exhibition in pure determination and pride. Smashing the eventual winners and going toe for toe with the Italian champions seemed like the awkwardly manufactured ‘glory’ I’d play out on FIFA in my 20s. Even when Juve won, their reaction was one of a team that knew they had faced a massive test, with passionate roars where you might have expected a workmanlike series of gestures for a professional job well done.

Now we’re going up against Barcelona, the greatest team of the modern era, and probably the greatest player of all time...and we’re their biggest rival in the group...justifiably.

The 90s seem a long way away. Soak it in lads and lasses. After so many years of false dawns and the sleeping giant, Goliath is wide awake and heading back into battle on the biggest stage in club football. Madrid, Juve, Barca...no need to dream anymore. They’ve all come true.
Nice one Jerry
