Doku who didn’t start their 2 most important games of the season against Woolwich and Liverpool and has mostly not been that good. Yeah Brennan will improve but he’s the same age as martinelli who you compared him to and he’s not come close to the levels that guy has shown over the past few years. Every player can improve their all round game, but Johnson’s ceiling just isn’t that of a starting winger competing for the top titles in football, I think that’s pretty obvious to anyone who’s not just blindly hopeful about any player their team signs.
What we spent on him should have absolutely no barring on better wingers being brought in the summer and luckily for us I doubt Ange has that same level of small time thinking.
Uh Because he's obviously not as good as Foden, I mentioned Doku because they are kinda similar profiles, same age and both bought this year yet it's interesting that Pep sanctioned the club to buy him who will no doubt improve and so will Johnson.

He’s such a mixed bag. He scored early last night and you’re hoping he smells blood and goes and takes the game by the scruff of the neck but doesn’t. Some of his game is too tentative then he just ups the pace and plays a one two and fires a cross in and you see that explosive play that you want to see all the time. It’s in him but it’s also not in him too much.
He’s a frustrating player just now but hopefully the more experienced and better he gets then we see that explosive side more consistently.

These guys are benefitting hugely from the system. What they have is attributes that really suit those roles and we consistently feed them with very high xG chances.
Brennan has potential imo but the stats flatter him. Good in moments in games and pops up with a goal or assist but then can disappear for large periods.
Werner is just Werner. No surprise he’s high for expected metrics as positionally he’s excellent and he’s fast as fuck. But the end product

They’re both behind on their expected goals. Johnson should probably have 5 assists instead of 7, which is decent.
The hope is that Brennan adds a lot more consistency and reliability to his game. Werner is what he’s always been and always will be.
