The worst thing about today is that Sheffield looked like the better team for most of the game and it was us playing at home. The VAR decision was ridiculous and almost gives the impression we won a point today instead of losing two.

Hopefully we will improve after the international break... I really want a win against the spammers.
The question is....how do we improve? Answers on a postcard to D. Levy or M. Pocchettino c/o THFC.

Thank God I couldn't find a stream. Was it really that bad? I've said before we ought to go after Baldock and I think Shelvey would add spine and some guts and firepower to MF. Should be making offers in the new year. Baldock probably has no interest but Shelvey would love to come. (Imo) btw. The water off Gozo is spectacular for scuba diving. Mrs. P. You should get over there and give it a try. But DON'T eat the Lampuki.

I agree that we looked better late in the game with LC more central and Lucas in the game. But, SU had abandoned the high press, so we had the ball more. The high press is the blue print against us, and until we can beat it, we will struggle.
At half time the stat machines had us down for 65% possession and 61 at the end, so I suspect your memory is flawed, plus we played without N'Dombele and a clearly flagging GLC.
Aurier was dogshit again and Davies' service from the left was poor, although defensively he was pretty much on the ball.
GLC showed why we got him and why we wont miss Eriksen and as far as I'm concerned Winks showed why he needs to play.
The team looked lethargic, but were the better footballers but not the best team.
In the first half their little #16 ran the centre of midfield but was markedly less effective when Winks took up his post.
It wasnt great by any standards but as soon as we can ditch the chaff and have Foyth RB and Sessegnon LB then we should have a more secure set of flanks, and I can only see GLC and TND being a real force, particularly if Winks feeds them as well as he is capable of doing. I dont think we are far from shedding our old skin and emerging into a better side.
All this moaning about Mouras hurt feelings is pretty lame stuff. When he gets a start he has almost always been a disappointment- something a lot of you conveniently forget. Scoring a hat trick against a burning Huddersfield going down faster than the Hindenburg doesn't count as vindication.
Some good signs in there, amongst the dross

Nice to have met Cretinous Goat and COYS 1955, as well as catching up with Nutter Naylor and Mrs P - who has an absolutely magnificent photo of her and Stevie P, who looked to be in great shape, as well as delighted to be meeting his #1 fan.
Look out for his book, I'll be getting a copy for sure.

It wasn't as bad as Everton. We struggled to pass it from defence. Their press was fantastic. As they tired we created a bit more towards the end of the second half. No one really played well - most of them are out of position anyway - but I think Lo Celso looked good. Throughout the game they were by far the better team. They missed a couple of sitters and had a goal chalked off for offside in another ridiculous episode of VAR.

When we used to win cups, our league performances used to suffer. But now, what's the excuse?

The three trophies we’ve won in the last 35 years - FA Cup 1991, League Cup 1999 & 2008 were all in horrible league seasons when we finished something like 10, 11 & 11. We’ll surely win a Cup this season. My money is on the European Cup.

I love this forum sometimes. Everyone was saying how great the lineup is before the game and I asked the question “who everyone will blame if we didn’t get a result”. It’s still the manager! Maybe I’m in the minority now but this as much a player issue than anything, not to mention Poch didn’t get the money he needed two years ago.

Lo Celso was our best player on the pitch today, it’s not Poch’s fault that he was injured for the last while. He is an automatic starter now. Kane was off it tonight so perhaps that was an illness related. Son was good. Was really impressed with Alli tonight actually. Played some really good one touch passes. Had our full backs been better, we might have got a few passes in. Davies was solid at the back but can’t cross (did people not know that). I’d start Rose knowing that someone will need to cover for him as his defending can be subjective sometimes. Aurier was poor. I think Foyth should be starting but Foyth can be pretty slow so will need to bear that in mind (where oh where is Trippier). Dier was beyond shocking tonight. Not only was his defending very suspect but his passing was atrocious. Better teams would have got him sent off or exploited him. I think Alderweireld needs to be starting. Anyone who thinks Moura should be starting is just stupid in fairness. That guy is an impact sub pure and simple. I’ve seen many like him over the years but unfortuently for him, that won’t change.

Overall it was very laboured. There was very little energy and passing was slow most of the time. That is down to two things: this lineup was pretty new and they need to get used to each other but the second major point is that these guys are devoid of confidence. Only thing Poch can do now is keep the starting lineup relatively consistent, keep the defence tight and don’t concede early or late goals, and just keep at it.

I wasn’t super impressed with the match BUT I saw some positives.

3 games without a loss - equals our best period of form so far this season.

6 games in a row without conceding more than 3 in a game.

Closed the gap on Woolwich.

Son has 5 goals and an assist in his last 5 games I believe.

Lo Celso looks good.

Struggling to keep positive really, but have to try. As do the players.

COYS

Davies and Aurier in an attacking sense are absolutely atrocious. Cant fucking cross for shit and it is infuriating to watch. Give Foyth a run of games at RB now and prey to God Sess can be decent at Left back.

They shouldn’t be attacking at all but Poch is proving his a one trick pony.
Instead of adapting players to a system that fits their strengths he keeps making players play in a system that doesn’t suit them.
