Insert google pun.

Obviously a signing for our youth team (but he has Championship experience) but personally I would love to have him in our set up to see how he could improve.

27 championship appearances last season so might be a buy and loan back or buy and loan somewhere else, certainly not an advancement to play for our u21's.

He's been linked with everyone from PDG to Woolwich and elsewhere, so presumably being hawked round by his agent.

He's only 5 foot 7 ins (1.75 m ?) so more of a Messi than a Kane, but actually more likely to be a winger at that size than a striker ?

Could definitely see him loaned out to a Championship club.

Whenever I have seen him play for the Swedish youth sides he has been one of two strikers in a 4-4-2. Usually teamed up with Carlos Strandberg who is a fair deal bigger so they play target-runner.

Yes, and one of the best in his England year group.

Until Spurs show a consistent path through to first team involvement (including sub appearances and later starts) for youth players Spurs will not be immune from the signing of the cream of England youth by continental sides willing to offer them the opportunities to play first team football that PL sides do not.

I wonder if the penny will only drop for some PL sides when the only way to get enough 'home grown' players in their squads means a multi million pound purchase of an England youth who joined the continental club for maybe £250k and spent just 2 years there.
Here's hoping we are working in buy back clauses

No surprise that we want to see how Sterling develops, but maybe more of a surprise with Tracey who doesn't seem to have the level of technical skills required but does have physique, decent running ability and can play in a number of positions - maybe we are trying to develop our own Sissoko rather than buying him !

Maybe the club think they can get a fee for Tracey?

Possible, but it would not be high at the moment as I suspect he'd only be of interest to League 2 teams, but maybe with a loan or two over the next season or two he would interest League 1/Championship (after all we bought him so we musty have thought he had good development potential at that point in time).

I think that experience of playing in the dev squad is one of the main reasons he has been kept on. A major factor would have been losing Bennetts and possibly Edwards also. Maghoma was also offered another year by the club infact.

Maybe, but although (per stats below) we have lost Bennetts, Maghoma and Pritchard who played a lot for the u21's last season and I'd guess we will not see much of Amos, Harrison or Edwards or Sterling for the u21's next season there is still pretty much a full team(without Tracey) (ie Brown, Dinzeyi, Duncan, Eyoma, Tangana, Georgiou, Marsh, Roles Shashua, Skipp plus Whiteman/Austin) ) who might be said to be u21 regulars going into next season with a number of players who played 1/2/3/4/5 matches as a 'taster' last season and who realistically should have no problem in stepping up.

So not sure whether the main reason for retaining Tracey is necessarily linked to his u21 experience. I don't think he has enough technical ability to succeed at Spurs but his physique says he should cope with 'mens' football so I'd have guessed a loan is more likely next season rather than u21 football. But we'll see I guess.

Excellent spot! Interesting date for the game as our U23's will be competing in a competition in France whilst a whole load of youngsters (about 10-11) will be in the States with the first team. So would imagine it would be an U18 side.

Going to be a tough match if its mainly the new Academy Year 2 side - might need a couple of older heads to help. Maybe the likes of Ogilvie and Harrison if Poch doesn't fancy them enough to take them away with the first team and probably wouldn't go to an u21 tournament ?

It is actually against a Spurs U16 side hence there being no information of the game from Spurs.

Yup Matt Wells has now been at Spurs for circa 4 or 5 years, and before that was at Nike where was coaching youth (as well as doing videos eg to help educate both his youngsters and maybe other coaches on various aspects) and before that was a technical development manager at Stevenage so he's got a lot going for him as a coach. Sadly his own career didn't go that far - think he retired injured in his early 20's only a couple of years after being released from Spurs Academy.

What I think may be lacking is the 'gravitas' of having achieved something and indeed lack of age (think he's now about 30 ish) - I always recall Alex Inglethorpe having both the maturity and the reputation of managing Exeter to a draw against a full strength ManU side which I think made the kids give him that much more respect and maybe willingness to learn which made him a great u18 coach. And from that point of view I think Spurs need to find additional youth coaches as we have lost a fair few in the last 5 years or so - ideally with both technical coaching skills as well as maturity and having achieved something in the game to inspire the kids - maybe in a couple of years that might be Ryan Mason for example.

But for now, a big welcome to Matt Wells as u18 coach and hope he is successful - and stays for a few years in that role !

Rafa Van Der Vaart is retiring me thinks
