btw, Paris Maghoma, who left about 2 years ago as he thought he should be more appreciated than he had been, was on bench for Brentford against us - has been on bench for them 3 or 4 times this season.

Now aged 20 was a reasonably big lad who liked to play as an AM/CM - reminds me a little of Ruben Loftus-Cheek in being promising but not maybe quite as good as is required in getting goals/assists/key passes ?

I think I'd still prefer our 20 year old CM Harvey White who has an excellent goal/assists records at u23's, just need s either Spurs first team involvement or a loan to a Championship side (did ok at League 1 Portsmouth last season for 2nd half of last season)

First match looks fairly straightforward!

Sadly not.

I'd guess that 17 year old Charlie Sayers might have signed from Southend (where he's already made first team debut) although internet posts suggest he's going to sign but yet to actually sign, as he's named Captain playing LB

Sadly the new signing didn't help - we lost 3-0, possibly in part due to it being a fairly young side mainly first years

The point of an under 23 team is to try and develop players. By picking the same team just about every game the team as a whole become better, play better and win more games and maybe win the under 23 league, which basically means nothing. Might look good for Wayne Burnett but it’s not achieving anything. None of these players are getting nearer the first team.

This U23 team appears to be really good. Shame none of them are getting some senior minutes, especially given the performances of the first team so far this season. A few of them need good championship loans in January.

Probably easier to list the u23 starters who don't need loans yet Lo-Tutala (only just started playing u23's), Cesay and Mundle.

Whilst the 8 needing loans are Lavinier, Fagan-Walcott, Lyons-Foster, Omole, White, John, Markanday and Clarke. Although Omole and Lavinier being that much older might leave in January ?

If those 8 went on loan, we'd bring into the next u23 side Devine (too young for a loan - might also play with first team), Craig twins, Santiago, Mukendi (fit enough to play the other week - and we need a player who can be striker), Lusala (fit enough for first team training 2 weeks ago), Robson (see Lusala), Muir, Kyezu, and Paskotsi so we'd have 12 outfield players not on loan plus Scarlett and another couple of Academy year 2 players to chose from ..... and a choice of 4 GK's,

So we'd have a largely new u23 side, all of them needing minutes to show what they can do ...... and 8 more players getting experience of playing mens games and potentially candidates for the first team, or even a fee if sold on.

Worth summarising our existing u23's who have been out on loan :

Alfie Whiteman : 23 year old GK on his first ever loan at Swedish top flight side Degerfors making 13 appearances so far - all their matches since he joined the club except yesterday when he was on bench. Came on for last 8 mins of an EL match for Spurs last season, He and Brandon Austin (about 20 appearances on 2 loans last year) will be vying for 3rd GK position next season

Jamie Bowden : 20 year old DM/DLP on first ever loan at L2 Oldham making 20 appearances in all competitions totalling 1574 minutes so far (ave 79 mins/appearance) generally starting and playing 90 mins when fit (plus on bench 3 times) with one goal and 2 assists.

J'Neil Lloyd-Bennett : 19 year old (20 in a couple of days) winger/striker who has made 11 appearances (782 mins played) in all competitions for L1 Crewe with a goal and assist in his first ever loan as winger/striker, making an impression with running the wing - sadly injured about a month ago and returned to Spurs. If not fit enough to be loaned out again in January would be another player available for u23's . Also came off bench to play 8 mins for Spurs in an ECL match earlier this season.

Troy Parrott : 19 year old striker who has made 18 appearances for L1 MK Dons with 4 goals and 4 assists in all competitions in 2nd season on loan , Irish international.

Kion Etete : 20 year old (as of a week ago) striker who has made 23 appearances (1550 mins played or ave 67 mins played) for L2 Northampton on his first ever loan with 6 goals and 2 assists. Hopefully a hamstring injury resulting in him being brought off after 20 mins in his last match is not serious.

Overall a decent set of loans with regular playing time for the 5 players, all helping their development - I'd guess covid affected lower league sides finances restricting number of loans available ? Shame about Bennett's injury.

For most of the players its their first loans, so unlikely to be Spurs first team contenders next season, but a couple might be the following season if they have a further loan maybe at Championship club next season ?

Potential u23 side, assuming 8 more players loaned out in January (possibly unlikely to loan out that many ?) :

Lo-Tutala
Lusala Muir Paskotsi, Cesay
Devine, Craig (Ma)
Mundle, Robson, Santiago
Mukendi

Subs : Craig (Mi), Kyezu, plus one of 3 other GK's

Scarlett on the bench today.
Gil maybe still ill?
Possibly 2 perhaps 3 yoot v Rennes?
Possibly if Romero, Lo Celso, Royal and Gil are still out.

21 players in squad (including 10 on bench) for ECL match - Markanday and White (can even play LB) the most developed, with John possibly after that.

Question is whether Conte would bring any of them off bench

Would have been nice to give him 5mins+ Injury time, if he'd been training well, keep his head right in the feeling of being part of this team, in the future.
