CJJ CJJ Top work. Thanks.

No probs, much appreciated.

You can't calculate in a spreadsheet what makes for attractive football, but helps us to understand what happens in a club by seeing it in graphs & tables.

AVB has confirmed in the press conferences that his dismissal was contractual rather than performance related, so we can ignore his 'performance' from should he have been sacked POV.

Would be cool to add to my spreadsheet and put in the squads for each games to work out what, statistically, out best squad would be, but it would probably be too much work.

Anyone should feel free to contribute, if possible :)

As numbers are sort of the undeniable bread-and-butter of life, it's cool to sometimes see patterns in things too.
Actually, I see it exactly in inverse. I don't think numbers are bread-and-butter of life, but what they do is precisely force us to reconsider things we see as patterns.

The whole point of statistical inference is to determine if what we "see" is actually a pattern or not, since humans, on the whole, are programmed to be amazing at seeing patterns, even where there aren't any.

These patterns we see then become myths (Harry played attractive football, etc.). Instead of saying "that's not true", the numbers ask, "how can we test the validity of that claim?" And that's just so, so fun.

I kind of meant it in a 'science is deniable but the function of numeracy is unequivocal' kind of way, but I see what you mean

We might be shit, but we have the cleverest fans. This - is - enough.

Not difficult, I mean they call use "Spuds" when their team starts with the word "Arse"....

I think a lot of the time there's a certain amount of media pressure, or perhaps the majority in some form of medium, who encourage us to think in a certain way (i.e. Manager 'x' is shit) but, in reality, it's not always the case.

As numbers are sort of the undeniable bread-and-butter of life, it's cool to sometimes see patterns in things too.

I respect your opinion though, some people just troll away if they don't understand or like something, much prefer honesty :)
You're welcome sweetie.

Okay, so with a lot of effort, I now have the starting lineups and subs (used and unused) for every match this season..

..need to figure out what to do and how to do it

But those stats are unbelievably skewed, due to strength of opposition and shit like that.

Perhaps, but that's why it's just "statistically".

Technically the ability of any squad is subject to the same advantages/disadvantages based on the number of variables that can affect a match (which are infinite).
i.e. Zeki at CB playing against Suarez in the worst game of Suarez's career is unfair to compared to Verts playing against Jelavic in the best match of his career.

If you follow?

All we can know for sure is

Vertonghen Dawson Kaboul {right back} is a statistical nightmare!

(2 matches, 0 wins, 10 conceded!)

Like a sheep.

I'm trying to calculate the same for the whole squad, but there's a ridiculous number of permutations when it's over 11 positions. May take some time!
