I can’t believe Spurs fans doubted him. You could be Franz fucking Beckenbaur, but struggle with shite like Dier/ Sanchez partnering you. You’re effectively doing a 2 man job because his partners have been so atrocious. Finally he has a quality CB partnership and Romero now looks the world beater he is.

He also appeared to have a relationship breakdown with Conte. Romero’s next step is to become like Vertoghen and not just play well but lead the back and make the other defenders around him better, he is starting I think to do that and making him vice captain might have been a really smart move.

What a player we have on our books, I hope he meant it when he said he wanted to spend his best years with us.
It was a master-stroke from Ange to make him vice-captain, it's added an extra dimension to his game.
I still can't get my head around how quickly he has built up a partnership with Micky, considering he has no experience of PL. The same can be said about Destiny and Vic.
Although I still get palpitations when the ball goes anywhere near our box, I am feeling a tad more confidence that we can deal with most situations.
I have no idea if he is the best CB in the world, but he'll do for me :)

I just wish he gave his all for us like he does his country :sonpoint:

Honestly what a fucking centre back , messi was right he is fucking world class!
He just seems so more composed this season! Absolute baller!

True.... I think Destiny has the above attributes too though...... He doesn't play like a wannabe winger. He's a solid footballer that could slot into MF if called upon.
Udogie is just a freak. It is extremely rare to find a full back comfortable going inside or outside.

He gives Ange nearly unlimited tactical flexibility in that regard.

I've noticed a few players dwell on the ball when they're being closed down. To me it looks like a tactic to win fouls/bookings and play through the press.
It’s a tactic to entice the opposition to press to create space to open the game up. I get frustrated at times but I know there’s a reason for it. Because we now have centre midfielders and full backs who play in the park that can take the ball in tight spaces it makes it easier for us to play through teams. You can’t do that with skipp and Hojbjerg. We will miss Biss against Fulham big time.

Cristian Romero goes from rash to rock as he shines in Tottenham's win at Luton Town - and proves why Lionel Messi thinks he's the world's best defender

Lionel Messi thinks Cristian Romero is the best defender in the world. ‘Good judge,’ said Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou when reminded of the compliment in the glow of his team’s gutsy win at Luton Town.
Spurs had just gone top and his centre halves deserved plenty of the credit. Micky van de Ven scored the only goal, early in the second half, and Romero shone, too, as the defensive unit flexed its biceps to protect the slender lead with 10 men after Yves Bissouma’s red card.
That has not always been the case. Romero arrived for £42million, a huge fee, from Atalanta but for all his obvious talent spent his first two years in London as if one reckless tackle from suspension or injury, while giving off strong vibes that he’d rather be playing for Argentina.

It has been a different story under Postecoglou from the moment early in the first game of the season at Brentford when he scored despite taking a blow to the head and pleaded to stay on when it was clear he had to come off. There is more composure and control to his football. It appears the decision to make him one of the team’s new vice-captains at the dawn of this new era seems to have had the desired effect.

‘Maybe,’ agreed Postecoglou, after Romero, 25, finished the game with the captain’s armband. ‘And maybe a bit of maturity. Working with him, he’s just an outstanding defender. Someone you definitely want in your team.

‘Yes, he does have that physicality about him. He’s a good player as well. His passing range, his ability to really position himself well, to stay calm and then just ridiculous bravery to put his body in there.’

Over the first eight games, Spurs have not looked anywhere near as fragile as they did in recent seasons when sitting deep with a packed defence and screening it with protective midfielders. It is reward for Postecoglou’s courage but they can guarantee rivals will search hard for weaknesses after the start they have made.

Yup, because he is not playing next to a massive liability, resulting in Romero having to do the work of 2 defenders every game.
Let's also not forget he's got a proper keeper behind him, a proper midfield in front of him too.

Him and Kane were islands of quality in a sea of mediocrity last season. Kane obviously much more consistent whereas Romero was erractic.

Not world class but very elite IMO.

If he wants to be world class he needs to cut his blunders especially in crucial games.
