“From the outside, what I can tell you is that among the top 20 clubs in the world, in terms of wealth, Spurs are the only ones who haven’t got a scouting network.

“They are clearly understaffed in this aspect. It has become a kind of joke in the scouting community. They say, ‘have you seen a Spurs scout?’ You don’t see them. I don’t think they’ve got any.

“[When I was at Tottenham] we had 12 full-time scouts. We had a great scouting staff. The scout we had in Italy at the time is now the sporting director at Sampdoria after being sporting director at Monaco. The one we had in Spain is now head of recruitment for a big club in Spain. The one we had in Argentina is now head of recruitment for a club in Italy, so we had a strong scouting network which allowed us to sign all those players. Now it doesn’t seem to be the case."

And there problems don't end there, according to Comolli: “They have this fantastic [training] facility that Daniel Levy and I fought very hard to build but they need some brain power in there.

“If you look at the top clubs in the Premier League, all of them have got five fitness coaches and five physiotherapists just for the first-team but I don’t think Spurs have got anywhere near that at the moment.

“There is a lot to be done to address this situation.”

Well, this might explain the £120m worth of turds we seem to have acquired in recent times.

Not sure what to make of it. He came out and had a go at Liverpool over sacking him for Henderson last week so has a track record of sour grapes. But if we are signing guys without doing our homework it makes a lot of sense as to why they are not that good.

Agree with 1 point he makes in the interview regarding how to replace your star player the way Athletico Madrid did it with Griesman and Mandzukic for Costa working much better than the 7/8 in that Liverpool and us have done.

So we lost our scouts in Spain, Italy and Argentina...anyone remember all those great players we signed from these territories....we're probably better off without the cunts...

Yes, he brought in a few turds, or at least overpriced mediocrity (Bentley, dos Santos, Taarabt, Hutton) but he oversaw by far the best players in our recent past (Bale, Modric and Berbatov) and several solid and popular players (Pav, Corluka, Kaboul, BAE, Gomes ). The last two turned out a joke, but they were good for long stretches.
Seems like his legacy is better than Baldini's will be and maybe even Harry's in terms of transfers.

Comolli's players took a while to get going but a lot turned out well. However, he presided over an unbalanced squad. Younes Kaboul sums up his time at the club. He spent £8m on a prospect but with King injured he wasn't what we needed. Jol wanted Distin as we needed more experience. Kaboul turned out to be a very good defender eventually (until the knee injury)

I'm pretty sure he likes to take credit for Berbatov but I'm sure I read he was on our radar with Jol and Arnesen.

Zenit 1 - 3 Terek Grozny

:avbfacepalm:

Proof there is always someone worse off.

I despised this guy when he was at the club and I know for an absolute fact from someone who used to work at spurs lodge that jol couldn't stand him.

However, he did bring in some good young players who came good in the end. One of whome made us about. 70 mill in profit. The main issue at the time was that jol also needed first team players but he got youth and a few others that he didn't really need (bent anyone?) which must have been frustrating.

Worrying stuff about the scouting though. Hopefully broomfield can rectify this?

Don't know how we can judge Baldini yet. He's had 14 months. If you judged Comolli at 14 months into his tenure, how'd he look? Bale was not looking good for his first 18 months. Modric for his first year. It's very easy to look back in hindsight and say they were good while ignoring the perceptions at the time.

This is a club in transition. In some ways it has always been, and will continue to be until we are able to put all of the pieces together at the same time. That would take several years that the fans aren't willing to wait though.

Just a quick list of some of the players that Commoli used his extensive scouting network to sign:

- Gilberto
- Kevin Prince Boateng
- Giovani dos Santos
- Gomes
- Darren Bent
- David Bentley
- Alan Hutton
