Florentino Perez slams Mesut Ozil, says new Woolwich star is “obsessed with women” [abc.es]

Whilst Woolwich fans are deliriously happy with the signing of one of the world’s best players, Perez has called Ozil unprofessional and “obsessed with women.”

In an article published by abc.es, Perez reportedly believes Ozil was not a good professional by the time he left the Bernabeu for Woolwich on transfer deadline day.

At the end of September, Perez will meet with Real Madrid directors to explain the incomings and outgoings at Real Madrid this summer and he will tell them that Ozil was moved on due to an unprofessional attitude.

Although Ozil arrived in Madrid in 2010 as a devout Muslim, Perez says he changed whilst in the Spanish capital: ”Mesut discovered the world & became obsessed with women, a world that was alien to him before.”

Perez continued: “It wasn’t about the women but about the late nights, the hours spent not sleeping. He wasn’t a good professional.”

As a result when Ozil’s father came to negotiate with Real Madrid over a salary increase to €8.5m a season, his agent’s attitude and “party lifestyle” meant Real Madrid were happy to let him go.

Ozil's Dad Slams Perez
12 September 2013

Mesut Ozil’s father and agent, Mustapha Ozil, has lashed out at Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

Ozil senior is angry about comments Perez allegedly made about his son, following his transfer deadline day sale to Woolwich.

In an article in Spanish newspaperABC, Perez is alleged to have said that Ozil was sold because he had become partial to staying out late, partying with women.

The inference is that Ozil’s declining professional standards had begun to affect his performances for the club, and so he had to go.

In the report, Perez is also alleged to have blamed Mustapha for the breakdown in his son’s relationship with Los Blancos, by demanding an exorbitant pay rise.

Ozil senior has taken offence to the comments attributed to Perez, and has threatened to take the Madrid president to court to reveal the truth of his son’s unexpected departure from the Bernabeu.

"Just because someone earns a lot of money does not make them automatically a man of honour," Mustapha Ozil fumed in an interview with Bild.

"And [Florentino] Perez is no man of honour. Mesut is made the scapegoat now. And I am the greedy father, who only waits for the big money.

“A put-up job, a bad business. We will defend ourselves legally."

A common response to the view on Ozil that Perez is said to have taken is that the Real honcho was simply attempting to pacify the fans who were shocked by the midfielder’s sale.

He had been one of Real’s most influential players for the past few seasons, a view attested to by his former team-mates and opponents alike.

And so Mustapha wonders why, if his son had been playing badly due to excessive partying, was a relative staple in the Madrid starting line-up.

"If Mesut leads such a dissipated life, as they always say, then I wonder: Why did he always play?," he said.

"They want to talk Mesut down, because the fans and some team-mates are angry about his sale."

Meanwhile, the British football media is waiting with baited breath for Ozil to be unveiled as an Woolwich player on Thursday.
