Needs to be used as an impact player. He's great as an impact player but not mature or ready enough to rely on him from the off.
That is where I think he is right now. Saturday was potentially massive for him though. If he can produce that kind of grit then we have a great winger option on the right. Not yet at the level needed for starting XI title contender team, but getting there. Still think we need a Neto or similar in place of possibly Kulu (unless Kulu is kept as a utility player, which isn't a bad shout).

How he came on and played is what I’ve wanted from him since he joined. Aggressive on and off the ball and wanting to influence the game. Him coming on probably won us the game.
Aggression is the key word here and you’re exactly right. He’s not the most skilful guy so I don’t think he’ll win fans over, but when he is direct and forcing the issues he will get the bounces.

...?

outside of a couple of moments what has johnson offered this season?

3 goals and 6 assists in 13 starts and 7 substitute appearances for us - 1300 odd minutes of football.

If you look at others who have played similar time he is in the top 5 for both expected goals and assists when on the pitch.

As has already been said, he has so much he needs to improve on. But the raw potential is there. We only have to look back at how Gareth Bale and Harry Kane were at the same age, neither were anything like the player they became. Keep improving, keep contributing, and who knows the kind of player he may be down the line. At the absolute minimum he will be extremely useful. He's already that.

Best game yet imo. His potential is scary, despite clearly nowhere near finished product he regularly gets goals and assists.

Some of the posts dismissing him are embarrasssing considering his age and where he is at development wise

Player A: 4 goals, 6 assists, 1202 minutes played, 0.75 g/a per 90 min.
Player B: 4 goals, 7 assists, 1408 minutes played, 0.7 g/a per 90 min.

Player A: Johnson
Player B: Maddison

One our greatest signing, the other a flop :ange-lol:
