Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

What I realised watching him at Chelsea is that while he wasted a lot of chances, he also created a lot of chances and put himself in good positions. If he'd ever learned better composure then he'd have been world class.

I guess we'll see what Ange does with him, but he'll certainly fit our style well.

We are loaning/buying him for his runs which stretch defences and his elite pressing. He is a poor man's Mane but that still makes him vastly better than any of our attackers including Son at pressing.

Our loan of Werner and links to Gallagher suggest Ange wants better pressing players.

Do you also have a video of all the 34 goals (+ 13 assists) he scored for Leipzig in one season? :paraticiwink:

I'm not cheering against him. All I said is I'm not getting my hopes up and hopefully he proves me wrong.

Unlike other recent signings, Timo has been so bad we have all openly mocked him. It doesn't make you any less of a fan to have hesitations over him. If anything, it makes you delusional if you're all in thinking he's going to be great for us.
It's a huge difference between being delusional about Werner being a great signing and simply being positive and giving him a chance until he's at least played a few games. One should be behind every player in the Spurs shirt unless and until they've proven otherwise (like Ndombele).
I remember how fans teared into Vicario before he's even played a game and, particularly, after his first ever game for Spurs (vs Brentford).
Werner is an emergency signing after Solomon, Perisic and Veliz all went out injured and Son will be gone for a month to the Asia Cup - leaving Spurs with only Johnson, Richarlison & Gil up-front + Kulusevski, who's covering both as OCM & RWF.
It's well-known how hard it is to sign quality players in the January TW. And Spurs had not budgeted a new forward this January TW; so apart from Jota there really weren't many other options available.
I have not gone thru all the comments about Werner but I haven't seen any fan raving about him and claiming he'll be a huge hit. And he's never been mentioned among all the various forwards Spurs wanted.
He's a cheap emergency signing who choose Spurs over Man Utd.
I wish him all the best!

I thought I must be suffering from memory loss

Surely Richarlison was signed in summer 2022 - yet Kane was sold in summer 2023. And we bought Richarlison as we were short of forwards at that time. And we also bought Johnson in summer 2023 as again we were short of forwards, and indeed we are still short of forwards (despite signing Solomon in summer 2023 to partly compensate for Moura leaving) which is why we are signing Werner on a 'try before you buy' loan.

All this is pretty standard squad building stuff - so I'm really struggling to associate Richarlison arriving with Kane being sold a year later as somehow being intimately linked.

its probably more accurate to say that Son has been cultivated into being Kane's standin over a period of years. !
Bloody hell, you're right - I did him a mis-service.

Which makes the idea of Richarlison being Kane's replacement 13 months before he left for Bayern even more laughable!

If Werner signed for Woolwich, those that are blasting him would be saying what a great signing he is and wished we showed the same ambition as Woolwich..

It pains me to see how many knicker wetters we have in our ranks.

If he signed for Liverpool I guarantee people would think that it's a good transfer and Klopp would get the best out of him because he fits their system.

Just listened to Ally Gold's latest podcast. Last season Werner had a great one, had a goal or assist every other game (which is true only for Bundesliga and exclude the cups). This season is worse but he had an injury he's coming from. So certainly doesn't seem to have been scarred by his Chelsea experience

Very entertaining debate on here. For me, this is a very cute and astute signing. Minimal risk for us and he’s got the chance and motivation to really perform. Love his pace and broader game. Let’s enjoy.
