Awful .. moment of brilliance by Son and then a full half of shitting ourselves. So many passes giving the ball straight back to Villa, so many unnecessary little fouls in dangerous areas, and we aren't dealing with the intensity of the game at all.

They've set out to stop us, they've marked up when we've tried to break, they've overrun us in midfield and been really aggressive in terms of the press. They've also gone down easily and people like romero and royal have played into as has hoj. Totally outplayed!!!

I can see Kane dropping back and getting on the ball more in the second half, Sonny ( although a goal scorer ) doesn't play well in games that are over physical, just wonder if Steve B would be a better option perhaps later on

Villa push their full backs on so much that when we are looking to transition our wingers are so deep that Kane is isolated, if we go 3 in midfield then they're gonna outnumber us on the wings.
Think the formation is fine, our application when we've had the ball is appaling though.
Honestly, whenever Kane gets near the ball and he looks up, there's no one to pass to. Kulu and Son are playing so far deep. And Kane isn't going to make anything happen getting dribbling by players. Kulu/Son need to play further up.

Strange game / performance. Villa clearly went out to break legs, and we're lucky no one got a career-ending injury in the first 30 mins. But when they actually tried to play football they've been very good. We just don't seem to be sharp / at it. In recent games we've played our way through the high press with great ease, but today we seem slower, less sure, and so keep giving it away. Yet somehow we're still winning (god knows how). Let's hope that 1st half is one of those lucky 45 mins that you need to finish well in the table, and let's hope a different side comes out in the 2nd half.
