He's the kind of player you'd be delighted with if your team took a punt on him for £5m when he's an unknown, but much less impressed with when your the team that chucks £60m at the team that took the punt...

There's a lot to be said for surprise factor too, opposition is paying more attention to £60m Mitoma than £5m Kaoru Who???

Anyone worthy enough to take Sons place in the left wing would be Kvara / Vini Jr or Leao. I would love Mbappe but he is not coming here...

That is the level we should be aiming for.

If we aren't offering the wages they can get elsewhere then we need to try and find that level of player before they explode BUT given FFP and the way the winter window was, there is no reason not to compete for a marquee signing.
 
If we take up the option to buy this summer it will us everything we need to know in terms of whether Enic are ambitious or not with this manager

No one is measuring a team’s ambition by a 5th choice forward squad player any more than they’re measuring it by keeping Oliver Skipp.
Do you measure Woolwich’s ambition by Trossard?

It’s what we do to get in a top class forward that will matter.
 
Good game today.

You can see just by watching Werner in this system how important a player of his profile will be for this team. Rapid, plays on the line, but also wiling to take on his man and create. Should have had a penalty and put in a great cross or two. Glad he got his goal.
 
Should have scored early on especially after a great 1st touch to send himself through on goal.

Overall he did well. Hes very good at keeping possession in the build up and doesn't force the issue.

If he finds killer instinct in front of goal he could be great

He can't finish for toffee - had no faith he'd convert that one-on-one as he went through.

However, there is a lot about his game that I like. He's direct and tenacious and is doing a decent job out there on the wing.
 
Second half he really stepped up his efforts of taking on his defender and being direct around the box - was very threatening. Obviously great that he got the goal too, but his overall play in the second half specifically was exactly what we need in this system from our wingers.
 
If he could finish he'd be better than Salah and up there with the best winger in the World. His first touch on the chance he missed was a thing of beauty and extremely difficult technically, such a shame that he never looked like scoring. You can still see how valuable he is to the system though, and he has a good cut-back with his left foot. We'd be mad not to make this transfer permanent.

He is a bit of an enigma. The way he took that ball (wasnt easy) and charged through on goal was breathtaking, he clearly has no self belief when it comes to composing himself and finishing.

A fast tap in across the box for him is perfect, doesnt need to think about it!
