We realistically could finish 4th if Woolwich, Everton and United continue with the mistakes they're making so far. Not saying we will but it's possible if Pochettino gets us playing well quickly

Woolwich have consistently made top 4 playing poorly v top 5/6 teams but beating smaller teams.

Sorry, you are being FAR too positive and optimistic for a Spurs fan. Please reel it in.

Yeah it's not impossible but I rekon next season we'll have a much better chance when Poch's system will be 100% up and running with this season being more "transitional" (lol)

Your calling ArcspacE ArcspacE mate yet calling him out for being a cunt constantly in here? And digging him out in another thread for being into Lego. Who needs enemies with friends like you?!
Your nothing. Your an internet persona that some sad kid has started to get away from his sad life.
Until someone shares a beer and vouches for you, your words mean nothing to me.

I call everyone "mate" mate. It's not a term of endearment. Either that or "cunt".

Right now you are acting the "cunt"......."mate".

Point being?

i believe you said that loads of teams below us are investing more in net spend terms than we are. My point was that they are doing that and still finishing below us. So I'm not sure you can say that having a higher net spend = instant success.

Let's face it our net spend is low for two key reasons: 1. we rarely spend over 15 million for a first team player 2. we usually go on to sell those players for a huge profit.

We then reinvest that money into starting back at point 1 again.

So it's not all about net spend in one or two transfer windows it's about finding god value in the market and managing your money to keep yourself competitive.

You're not the first to say that to me today, I don't expect us to get top 4 but if we got a bit of luck we could. I just feel Pochettino plays the right way and our squad isn't anywhere near as bad as people like to make out. I'll start worrying if Soldado doesn't score a few goals once he gets a run in the team though.

trix on coys

Poch is very happy with the squad he has got!

Levy was heavily criticised last Summer for having no coherent transfer plan, so
instead this year we set out a list of targets that Poch thinks will improve squad in the positions he thinks need upgrading. With CB we have had a preferential list which we have worked our way through until we have gotten our target because Poch didn't have faith in what we had and the ones at the top of the list became unobtainable for one reason or another. That is a very different situation to the other signings we wanted.

There is no point in just bringing in players that the manager really doesn't fancy, because come January/next summer we will be looking to move them on again, (which is so very difficult) just to get the players that were top of the list as of now. Yes I think if we had pushed earlier we could have got Welbeck, but the fact is Poch wanted J-Rod which is why we dallied over getting Welbeck done on loan. As time moved on it became apparent that the loan option was no longer viable and it would have to be a a full transfer if we were to get him. No way were we going to pay in excess of £15mil for Welbeck, when the manager would STILL want Rodriguez in January.

IMO both deals for the Saints boys were possible, but it would have meant throwing a lot more money at the players than even Poch deemed they were worth(financially speaking). Yes it has been a disappointing end to the window but I will just reiterate Poch is very happy with the squad as is. I am underwhelmed with today but I'd rather wait and get the manager what he wants than another scatter gun approach like we had last summer, and we have addressed quite a few issues this window already. LB, RB, CB and CM have all been in Poch's opinion upgraded and that is the key to what he needs to do his job properly.

He is being backed even if it doesn't look like it from the outside, buying players he didn't want just for the sake of buying them would not be backing him, it would have been exactly the opposite.

And for anyone that puts this down to Levy PR spin, my info comes form sources close to Poch and to the Southampton end of things, not Levy or the club itself.

You see. There's your problem right there. I don't want to be competitive....I want to be COMPETING

But theoretically, every marginal dollar can improve your squad. So if through scouting, infrastructure, or blind luck we are able to finish 5th with a negative net spend, how much better would we be if we spent in the transfer market equivalent to considerably less wealthy clubs?

And considering how few points we have missed a Scrooge McDuck swimming pool worth of CL cash by over the years, it seems awfully penny wise and pound foolish.

So our new manager wanted Villarreal center half from Argentina , He wanted ex players Lovren, scnderlein and j rod and apparently big admirer of wellbeck - We get fazio and stambouli .. That levy is some cunt . No wonder we are alwYs laughed at..I'm not asking for sun and stars but where is the ambition for Christ sake ? Where is the signing ALS falcao that can inspire and get everyone excited .., a piss poor window IMO . My overriding feeling ?? Whatever about players in there is some seriously fuckin useless players , total wasters , involved in first team let alone squad and I don't have any slight degree of confidence against any side to be quite frank .. If I was just an average footballer and I saw spurs team sheet I wud be well up for it , bang average .. All eggs in Europa for me

maybe. maybe not.
It depends on whether you buy the right players with that money. The level we are at and with no CL football we would be talking about spending huge wages to bring in a 'world class' player. Sadly the top tier players just aren't interested in Spurs. We aren't on their radar. Even when we managed to nearly sign one (Willian and Oscar) Chelsea nicked them at the last second by offering an extra 50k per week.

I'm no levy apologist and i would love to see us make a klinsmann-esque signing again that really excites us, but I just can't see it happening in the near future. Our job is to find the next bale or modric who can become world class whilst he's at the club. I think that was the hope for eriksen and lamela. Time will tell if that works out or not.

Levy wasn't at fault for any of them not signing iirc.

Musacchio he put in a bid but because of 3rd party rubbish they wanted an absolutely ridiculous fee.
Why would Lovren/Welbeck join us over Liverpool/Woolwich respectively?
Schneiderlin and Rodriguez it was just bad luck that they grew a spine once we were interested.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Christ, I rate Welbeck far more than most on here and was stumping for his signing but this is unreasonable. I would say bullet dodged but I'm sure the club never gave figures like that a second thought. Far too expensive.
